🏐 Massive Weekend for Checkers!

The intensity is ramping up this weekend with some critical fixtures across the club as we look to defend our positions on the ladder.

It is set to be a huge day, headlined by our Prem Men’s top-of-the-table clash. Meanwhile, our Prem Women are facing a challenge with a few players unavailable, but they are focused and ready to maintain their spot at the top.

We also have some exciting inter-club matches on the cards which always bring out the best in our squads.

If you're heading down to Parakiore tomorrow, look for Court 7 or as we like to call it, Checkers HQ. It’s going to be a non-stop day of action with our teams playing back-to-back all day long.

Good luck to all our squads playing this weekend.🏁

Better a little late than never! Here are the results from last week’s round of games:

🏀 Premier Women: An absolute thriller in our clash against the other unbeaten side!
🏀 U23 Black: Huge performance from Finn Chatterton, who balled out for 51 points in our win over the LU Hornhorns!
🏀 U20 Red & St Bede’s: A wild coincidence with the scorelines—both our U20 Red team and our affiliate side, St Bede’s, secured identical 92–89 victories!

It was great to see our junior sides looking sharp and impressive back on the court after a couple of weeks off. Great work, everyone.

Note: We are currently working on a new format for our results reporting, so watch this space for some updates soon!

It’s finals day at the U20 National Tournament, and both Canterbury teams are playing for national titles.

Checkers has been proudly represented throughout the week, with Jake Holmes and Jack Yagmich helping lead the Canterbury Men, while Ava Jones, Emilia Ainley, Niamh Chamberlain, Ophelia Powell, Yasmin Larry and Eva Jefferies have all played their part in Canterbury Women’s run to the championship game.

The Checkers connection extends to the sidelines too, with Canterbury head coaches Jayden Cameron (Men) and Dave Ermerins (Women) both aligned with our affiliate school, St Andrew’s College.

We wish all our Checkers whānau the very best as they take the floor today in pursuit of national championship honours. ❤️🖤🏀

There will be a huge Checkers presence at this year’s U20 National Tournament, with current players, former players and coaches all heavily represented across the competition.

The Canterbury U20 Men’s team features current Checkers players Jake Holmes and Jack Yagmich, while the U20 Women’s side includes Ava Jones, Emilia Ainley, Niamh Chamberlain, Ophelia Powell, Eva Jefferies and Yasmin Larry.

The connection runs even deeper with both Canterbury head coaches, Jayden Cameron & Dave Ermerins, also aligned with our affiliate school, St Andrew’s College.

Beyond Canterbury, Bronson Curtis will suit up for Waikato Country, while former Checkers players Oscar Tate and Boston Pareata will represent Otago at the tournament.

To see so many players and coaches with Checkers connections competing on the national stage is something our entire community can be immensely proud of. We wish everyone involved all the very best for the tournament ahead. 🏀❤️🖤
