🎨 Creating something that is entirely your own can be powerful.

Art Therapy provides opportunities to make choices, try something new, problem-solve and experience a sense of achievement - all of which can help strengthen confidence and self-esteem.

For children and adults, who may be struggling with their mental health, feeling isolated or navigating circumstances beyond their control, those small moments of 'I did this' can be life changing.

Creativity can help us reconnect with our strengths 💗

Emergencies can happen anytime 💛

While we can’t always know what’s coming, we can take steps to be better prepared.

🎶 Music can help us regulate.

Rhythm, tempo, repetition and melody can influence how we feel. Helping us to settle, focus, connect and engage.

In music therapy, these elements can be used intentionally to support emotional regulation, reduce stress and create a sense of safety.

For children and adults alike, music can provide another tool for navigating big feelings and finding calm 💛

🎨 In Art Therapy, the finished artwork isn’t the goal.

It might be a young person exploring difficult emotions, someone undergoing cancer treatment finding a moment of calm, or a person working through a challenging period in their life.

The value lies in the process... having the freedom to explore, make choices, express feelings and create without judgement.

There is no perfect. There is simply space to create and be 💗

🎶 You don't need to be musical to benefit from music therapy.

You don't need to sing beautifully, play an instrument or know anything about music.

Music therapy is about participation, connection and expression. It is not about a polished performance.

A beat, a sound, a movement, a familiar song or simply sharing a musical moment can all become meaningful ways to connect.

At Creative At Heart, our music therapy programmes meet people where they are, creating a safe and supportive space to participate in their own way 💛

Today marks the final session in a four-week Art Therapy programme for Rohingya women who are making a new home here in Blenheim.

Across the programme, spring has been a theme. A beautiful symbol of hope, renewal and new beginnings. After winter comes spring. After darkness, light. And sometimes, even after the hardest of journeys, there can be space for new growth.

Working alongside Red Cross Blenheim on this programme has been a beautiful connection between community, humanity and the arts. Across these four weeks, creativity has offered a gentle space for expression, connection, shared experience and simply being together.

Our heartfelt thanks to Red Cross and the incredible work they do supporting refugees as they navigate experiences and journeys that very few of us could ever imagine, while finding their feet and building new lives within our community.

And to the women who have shared this space with us - thank you. It has been a privilege to create alongside you. May this spring bring hope and belonging 🌸

🎨 Sometimes what we’re experiencing can be difficult to put into words.

Art Therapy offers another way to explore and express thoughts, emotions and experiences... particularly during times of illness, anxiety, grief, change or emotional distress.

For children, young people and adults, creating can provide a safe way to process what is happening, without needing to find exactly the right words 💗

🎶 Music can be a powerful tool for communication.

For some children and adults, music provides a way to practise sounds, words, turn-taking and interaction in a fun and engaging environment.

Rhythm, repetition and melody can help support:
✨ Communication
✨ Language development
✨ Social interaction
✨ Listening and attention
✨ Confidence in expressing yourself

Our music therapy programmes are tailored to each person’s individual strengths, needs and goals.

Sometimes, music can help create a pathway to communication when words don’t come easily 💛

🎨 You don’t need to consider yourself creative or artistic to benefit from Art Therapy.

There’s no right or wrong and no expectation to create something 'good'. It’s about the process of exploring, expressing and connecting in a way that feels manageable.

Because Art Therapy isn’t about artistic ability. It’s about wellbeing 💗
