🛡️Shield fever hit Beachlands on Sunday after Counties Manukau Rugby defeated Northland to claim the Ranfurly Shield!

Local mum Laura, who attended the event at Pine Harbour said, “It was exciting and inspiring for the community, in particular young rugby players who got the chance to hold it and grab a photo”.

Share your photos below if you were lucky enough to get up close and personal with the Log ‘o Wood!

🥹 This is what sport in our community is all about, but what also makes the Ranfurly Shield such a treasure. Thanks so much Nigel for everything you’ve done for our little club over the years. What a legend you are. And thanks to Counties Manukau Rugby for making this happen. 🔴⚪️⚫️

A moment that means so much ❤️

Nigel Shaw has been a lifelong supporter of Beachlands Maraetai Rugby, and the last time he held the Ranfurly Shield, he was just 12 years old.

62 years later, while battling terminal cancer, Nigel got the chance to hold the Shield once again after Counties Manukau’s win.

His family said the opportunity brought an energy and excitement to Nigel that they haven’t seen in a long time.

We’re incredibly grateful we could play a small part in giving Nigel this moment, and we’re so glad he could be there to share in the Shield win. 🫶🛡️
