Whare Koa Mangere Community House The House of Joy & Love

26/08/2026

I am so grateful that we have a board of trustees. I work closely with our young mothers on a daily basis and I am grateful to have support that is objective and founded on safety of all involved. Thank you so much Maeva TeArii for attending our meeting today and sharing our vision for the future and outlining what the board are thinking for a pathway for our mothers. Today’s session was out of the norm but so needed 🩷🫶🏼✨

Tuitu’u Heilala is in today! 🌺💛

It’s always so lovely having our Tuitu’u Heilala whānau back in the whare, bringing their joy, beautiful hymns, laughter and incredible talents! While the Heritage Room may not feel quite as bright now that their beautiful decorations from their showcase have come down, their presence continues to fill the room with so much love and warmth. 🥰

Today, Kilistina brought in the sisi (traditional belts) she made for the youth at their church. She shared that it takes her only a day and a half to create just one! 😍

How incredible is our group leader! The time, skill, love and heart that goes into creating these beautiful traditional pieces truly shines through. ❤️

Thank you, Tuitu’u Heilala, for continuing to share your culture, creativity and joy with us here at Whare Koa. 🌺

Mālō ‘aupito! 💕

🌺🎶 Akatangi Ukarērē 🎶🌺
📅 Every Tuesday | 10am – 12pm
💛 All are welcome to join!

It’s always lively at Whare Koa on Tuesday mornings! 🥰🎶 As Mama Theresa says, “It’s Happy Hour here at Whare Koa!” 💕 And we couldn’t agree more!

The beautiful strumming of the ʻukulele, the singing, laughter and everyone coming together brings such a special energy into the whare. 🌺🎵

There’s nothing like music to lift the spirits, bring people together and fill the room with joy! 💛✨

Come along, bring your voice, bring your ʻukulele, or simply come and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere. Everyone is welcome! 🎶🌺

🧵✨ Sew Simple is in today! ✨🧵

Lots of productivity happening today! From shorts and pants to large bags, custom pouch bags and so much more! 👜👖✂️

It’s so beautiful to see the confidence of each student grow with every class. Watching them learn new skills, create something with their own hands, and feel proud of what they’ve made is truly special. 🥹💗

There’s so much joy, creativity and connection in every class. We love seeing our community come together, learn from one another and turn their ideas into something real! 🌺🧵✨

Keep creating, keep learning and keep sewing! 💕

🌺🧵 Polynesian Creative Arts Mamas are in today! 🧵🌺

Mama Tukua is away today, but the mahi continues! Our mamas always have their heads down and hands busy — even when I say, “Smile mama!” 😂 That’s just who they are! ❤️

With upcoming goals and exhibitions to prepare for, when the mamas are tuitui, they mean business! 🪡✨ Their dedication, creativity and love for what they do is always so beautiful to see.

Today, Julia & Denver popped in to visit our mamas, wanting to learn how to create tivaevae. 🌺 The mamas were more than happy to share their knowledge, guiding them on where to find supplies and teaching them the first steps to get started. 🧵❤️

It was so lovely seeing our mamas being so open and generous in sharing their culture, knowledge and skills with others. Everyone is welcome to come along, learn, connect and have a go! 🌺

Thank you, mamas, for keeping Cook Islands culture alive and thriving here in our whare. 🇨🇰❤️ Your hard work, knowledge and passion are so special to our Whare Koa community.
