A year has past since we submitted feedback in review of the Mental Health Act, we shared insight into how detrimental the weaponising of seeking support as mothers traversing Family Courts systems can be. There are generally inadequate supports avaliable, the Act is beyond behind the times and in many situations where the impacts of Family Harm are trying to be shielded from tamariki, the Act actually undermines what it states it is intending to do.

Unsurpringly, despite the time and efforts of very many people and organizations to address these social issues, our current government haven't even got to looking at it... 🙄🫠 its not good enough.

Here at Social Nexus, we continue to explore and provide alternatives to support wahine and tamariki in struggles with mental health and neurodiversity, because waiting for support or solutions at a policy level is futile. Our Rest & Restore space acts as a safe haven for burnt out Mama, particularly those struggling with the realities of the s**t show that is Family Court.

While our online booking system is still yet to come, if you or someone you know needs support, please reach out. If not to us, to others; just reach out generally! You are not alone and we were never meant to be trying to do parenting in silos or isolation.

When we create alongside our tamariki, we together learn how to overcome some of the patterns of thinking systems which can be inherited through epigenetics and conditioning. There is so much power to be had in engaging in the process of being part of a journey of learning with arts and creativity alongside our kids. They learn from seeing us also have our own "fu***ng first times"* alongside them doing the same! (*Brene Brown's beautiful phrase for how the first time we do anything it is uncomfortable)
