Tapasā - Navigating the Future

Tapasā - Navigating the Future We help people navigate their cultural journey to knowing themselves, their past, present and future.

14/05/2026

50 years after the historic maiden voyage of the Hōkūleʻa from Hawaiʻi to Tahiti, some of our Tapasā team and youth had the incredible privilege of stepping aboard this legendary waka here in Tāmaki Makaurau 🌺

For many of our young people, this was more than just visiting a vessel… it was a chance to physically stand within a living legacy of Pacific navigation, resilience, and ancestral knowledge. To hear the stories of navigators like Papa Mau, learn about the deep whakapapa of the moana, and witness the care and intention held within Hōkūleʻa was something truly special.

Through Sāuni, our climate resilience collective, we continue creating spaces where Pacific young people and their communities can reconnect with ancestral knowledge while imagining the futures they want to lead. We are blessed to do this in collaboration with

Experiences like this remind us that innovation and resilience have always existed within our cultures. 🌊

Alongside exploring the and the Hawaiki exhibition, we also learnt practical knot-tying skills used on waka ⚓️

A massive thank you to the for welcoming our community with so much warmth and generosity. To witness our youth standing aboard Hōkūleʻa - eyes wide, asking questions, connecting stories back to their own identities wa so special!! 💙

The voyage of Hōkūleʻa continues to inspire generations across Moana Nui a Kiwa, and we are grateful our people could experience even a small part of that living history 🤎

Through the Sautalaga a te Kau Talavou o Tuvalu project, Youth created spaces where Tuvalu youth and families could come together to talk about climate change, identity, culture, and connection to homeland. 🇫🇯

From intergenerational storytelling to the Laka Emergency Grab Bag activity, the project showed that climate resilience is not only about preparing for environmental change but it’s also about strengthening language, relationships, cultural identity, and collective care. 🫶

“It’s scary to think our homeland might disappear before I ever get to truly know it.”

Proud to walk alongside TASIANI Youth in this kaupapa as support and backbone through Tapasā – Navigating Futures ✨

Thank you to for funding this initiative 💙

Atafa o Le Moana workshop on personal branding and elevator pitches! 🙂‍↕️

One thing that always comes up in our spaces is humility. It’s something we deeply value as Pacific people - but when it’s internalised in certain ways, it can also hold our young people back from stepping into opportunities they’re more than ready for.

This session was about shifting that. About helping our youth stand tall in who they are, own their story, and speak confidently about their strengths, their passions, and what they want to see for their communities.

We worked on crafting their introductions, practicing how to articulate their value, and even got them started on LinkedIn - look out for their invites to connect! 🌟

The main message is that putting yourself out there isn’t an ego thing but it’s about self-advocacy, visibility, and making sure our voices are heard in spaces that need them. 🌊
