Toitū te Tiriti - Interested Party Application - Treaty Clause Review Claim Wai 682 ‼️LINK TO SUPPORT IN BIO ‼️
Tēnā rā tātou e ngā maunga whakahī, e ngā awa tīpuna o Aotearoa whānui. Nau mai, haramai, whakatau mai i raro i te tāwharau o te kotahitanga.
Ngāti Hine have filed an urgent claim in the Waitangi Tribunal. The claim is asking the Tribunal to urgently inquire into alleged fundamental breaches of Te Tiriti and the principles of Te Tiriti that will occur if the the Crown proceeds with changing up to 23 laws to either remove their Treaty clauses altogether, or to reduce the requirement to consider the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi to no higher than “take into account”. The claim alleges that the changes will cause significant and irreversible prejudice to Māori now and for generations to come.
Toitū te Tiriti have filed an application to become an interested party to the Claim and to tautoko Ngāti Hine to try and get an urgent hearing. Timing is critical because the Government is already drafting the legislation and if they get it finished before the Tribunal can hear the claim, they will not be able to issue a report. Every day counts!
