Another great parkrun morning ☀️

It was another stunning morning on the drive down from Christchurch, to join 108 parkrunners on our weekly jaunt around the Ashburton Domain for parkrun event #88. Whether it was to spend time with friends and family, volunteer, get in some exercise, or burn off that Easter chocolate – we hope you enjoyed your morning with us!

A special welcome to the 8 parkrunners who scanned their barcode for the first time – thank you for choosing Ashburton Domain parkrun to start your parkrun journey, we hope to see you back again soon! We also welcomed a number of visitors, mostly from Christchurch, but several made the journey from Dunedin, the North Island, and Australia to enjoy the beautiful Domain.

17 parkrunners were egg-stra quick this morning, all securing a PB – congratulations!

A huge shout out to this weeks volunteers who put their hand up, donned a high-vis vest, dished out smiles, encouragement and played fine tunes so we could all enjoy parkrun! Thank you for giving up your time, your commitment is appreciated by us all.

🖤 Wearing Black for Colin – This Saturday 25th April🖤

It is with heavy hearts that we share that our beloved Colin Thorne passed away Monday night.

Colin meant so much to so many of us – not just here in Whangārei, but across New Zealand and around the world. His smile, humour, wisdom, determination and kindness touched countless lives, and the outpouring of love over the past day has shown just how far his legacy reaches.

By request of Colin’s family, this Saturday’s parkrun will be a chance for us to honour him together.

We invite everyone to wear black this Saturday as a simple but powerful mark of respect for Colin, his remarkable life, and the inspiration he gave us all.

We know that many parkrun events around New Zealand – and possibly internationally – may also choose to wear black as they remember Colin in their own communities. Wherever you are, if Colin ever made you smile, encouraged you forward, or reminded you of what is possible, this is a moment to walk, jog, run or volunteer in his honour.

Thank you, Colin, for everything you gave to parkrun and to us.
