โœจ Today is the International Day of Charity, a day to recognise the people and organisations around the world working to make a difference.

๐Ÿ๐Ÿธ At the Herpetofauna Foundation, we focus on protecting reptiles and amphibians and the ecosystems they depend on.

๐ŸŒ Through our projects and partnerships, we support conservation efforts in different parts of the world, from protecting sea turtles and their nesting habitats to supporting local initiatives addressing snakebite and improving access to life saving treatment. ๐Ÿข๐ŸŒŠ

๐Ÿ“š We also work to raise awareness about the importance of herpetofauna. Reptiles and amphibians play vital roles in healthy ecosystems, yet many species are facing increasing threats from habitat loss, pollution, climate change and human activity. ๐ŸŒฟ

๐Ÿค Charity can take many forms. It can mean making a donation, volunteering your time, sharing knowledge, supporting a conservation project, or simply helping others understand why these animals matter.

๐ŸŒฟ Lizards are among the most diverse and fascinating groups of reptiles, from the tiny Nosy Hara leaf chameleon (Brookesia micra) to the giant komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis).

๐ŸฆŽ Lizards play many important roles in their ecosystems: As predator, prey, or even as pollinator or seed dispersers.

โš ๏ธ Unfortunately, many lizard species face threats from habitat loss, climate change, and the illegal pet trade.

โœจ Today, August 12th, is International Youth Day. This is an awareness day designated by the United Nations, held with the aim of drawing attention to the importance of young people to the world.

๐Ÿค Here at the Herpetofauna Foundation, we have been supporting the Brain Youth Group in Kenya for many years. Through this initiative, disadvantaged young people help plant new mangrove forests. ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒŠ

This helps these young people feel like they make a difference and gives them a future. ๐Ÿ’š With this, they are directly creating new habitats for a great many endangered plants and animals. ๐Ÿข๐ŸŠ๐ŸŒฟ

๐ŸŸ And it doesnโ€™t stop there, as they go on to do things such as constructing fish ponds as a food source and organising beach clean-ups along the Kenyan coast. ๐Ÿงน๐ŸŒŠ
