Jos North bleeds… and this is painful to witness.
The continued killing of innocent citizens in our communities is not normal, and it should never be treated as something we simply move on from.

What happened in Gari Ya Waye Community, Angwan Rukuba, Jos North LGA, Plateau State is heartbreaking. Lives have been cut short, families have been shattered, and once again, ordinary people are left to carry the pain.

At a time like this, leadership must rise beyond speeches, politics, and campaign noise.
The safety of the people should be the first responsibility of government.

This is not the time to focus on political ambition while citizens continue to live in fear.
This is the time for:
- real security action
- intelligence-driven response
- community protection
- justice for victims
- and visible commitment to human lives

A nation cannot move forward when its people are constantly looking over their shoulders.

I created this map not just as a visual, but as a reminder that every attack has a location, every location has people, and every life lost matters.

Enough is enough.

My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Jos North and every affected family.

During a recent aerial capture, I came across this erosion feature and one question immediately came to mind:

𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙉𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙉𝙞𝙜𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙖 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙂𝙄𝙎
You should know by now that maps are more than just visuals showing lines and colours—they are tools for understanding concepts, interpreting spatial relationships, and ultimately, reading a region.

In this geospatial breakdown of North Central Nigeria, I mapped key layers such as roads, rivers, settlements, railways, airports, and administrative boundaries to show how spatial data helps us better understand the structure and function of a region.

Rather than seeing a map as just lines and symbols, each layer tells a story:
1. Road networks reveal accessibility and movement corridors
2. River systems show natural barriers, environmental influence, and terrain control
3. Settlements reflect human distribution and regional activity
4. Railways highlight strategic connectivity
5. Airports represent mobility and regional access points
6. Boundaries provide administrative context for planning and governance

This is one of the powerful things about GIS: it helps us move from simply looking at places to actually understanding how they work spatially.

For learners and geospatial professionals, this kind of exercise is valuable because it strengthens:
1. Spatial thinking
2. Layer interpretation
3. Cartographic design and
4. Regional analysis skills

𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙄𝙨 𝙆𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙁𝙤𝙧: The region is widely recognized for
* Oil and Gas production, making it the energy hub of Nigeria.
* It also features dense river networks, wetlands, and
* A strategic coastal position that supports maritime trade and logistics.

𝙆𝙚𝙮 𝙄𝙣𝙛𝙧𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚: The region is supported by major seaports such as Port Harcourt Port, Onne Port, Warri Port, and Calabar Port, alongside critical road networks. It is further characterized by extensive river systems, creeks, and a mix of dense urban settlements and industrial infrastructure.

𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙩𝙝𝙨: From an investment perspective, the South-South offers
* Strategic coastal access for imports and exports,
* Strong economic value driven by the energy sector, and
* Significant opportunities in marine logistics, infrastructure development, and environmental monitoring.

𝙒𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙨: However, the region faces notable challenges including flooding and waterlogged terrain, difficult accessibility in riverine areas, infrastructure gaps in rural communities, and environmental and pipeline-related risks.

𝙇𝙤𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣.
The 𝙙𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙜𝙚𝙤𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 is evolving fast.
The requirements are no longer basic — they are layered, technical, and highly specialized.

Recently, I came across a job opportunity and saw the list of required certifications…
Honestly, I paused.

Because it’s no longer enough to say:
You can fly.
You can process.
You can analyze.
You can survey.
You can map.

Now the real question is:
𝘾𝙖𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙞𝙩 𝙪𝙥?

Today, it’s not just about skills anymore — it’s about 𝙫𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚:
• UAV Operations Certification
• Safety Certifications (HSE, Confined Space, H₂S)
• Processing Certifications (LiDAR, RGB workflows)
• Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing Training
• GIS / Geomatics Certification
This is the new standard.

But let’s be real…
These certifications are not cheap.

So the real question becomes:
𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙙𝙤 𝙬𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙫𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙮?
