Happy International Day of the Girl Child!

End child marriage. Invest in girls.
Across Northern Nigeria, too many girls are married off before they finish school, learn a skill, or get to dream for themselves. Every girl deserves a childhood, an education, and the freedom to choose her own path.

At Let's Build for Humanity Initiative, we believe the best way to protect a girl is to invest in her. When a girl has skills, an income and confidence, she has choices. And a girl with choices is far harder to give away.
That's why we're breaking the glass ceiling one girl at a time. Through SHEBuilds Green, young women in Gombe are learning solar installation, plumbing, tiling and painting. These trades give them income, independence and a voice in their communities.
And we're not stopping there. Something new is coming to prepare girls for a digital future, safely and confidently. Watch this space.

The ripple effect

Four weeks of story, one page of results.
✅ 500 people reached
✅ 60 women trained
✅ 490 young people (aged 14–30) supported
✅ 1 public school renovated
✅ 5 green-skill tracks delivered

Sixty women trained directly — and around 440 more reached indirectly through the school, their families, and the community. One program, a widening ripple.

They didn't start from zero

Here's what surprised even us: ~40 applicants already had a business or green idea before day one.

🌿 Catering, tailoring
🌿 Eco-bricks from plastic waste
🌿 Renewable charcoal from sawdust
🌿 Waste recycling · tree planting · sustainable farming & more

These women weren't waiting to be rescued. They were already building. Our training just added the technical skill and credibility to ideas they already held — shortening the road from dream to income.

Where do you send trainees to practice?

A real project the community needs.
Our Cohort 1 trainees renovated Katau Nursery & Primary School in Billiri, painting, installing wallpaper, tiling, and making repairs that made classrooms and the office safer and more welcoming for the children and teachers who use them every day.

They learned by doing. The community got a rebuilt school. That's what we mean by building green — and building together.

So what did they actually learn?
Five hands-on trades, every one of them pays, and every one of them is green.

☀️ Solar installation — renewable energy & smart-building basics
🎨 Painting & wallpaper — finishing that transforms a space
🧱 Tiling & interlocking — durable floors, paths and surfaces
💧 Plumbing & WASH — water, hygiene and sanitation
🔥 Briquette clean fuel — turning farm waste into affordable energy

Classroom theory + real on-site practice + entrepreneurship training. Skills that turn into income.
