Last week, our Democracy Beyond Election (DBE) team moved the conversation to Tokarai Community in Potiskum LGA to ensure the message of grassroots accountability reaches every corner of the state.

During our session, we explored how the voter card serves as a permanent seat at the table of governance, far beyond just a tool for election day. We had an inspiring dialogue about the importance of looking past party symbols to prioritize candidates who are truly committed to solving the communityโ€™s most urgent needs.

It was a powerful reminder to everyone present that leadership belongs to the people. By staying informed and united, the residents of Tokarai can ensure their collective interests always come first.

A big thank you to the community leaders and residents of Tokarai for their incredible hospitality and for being active partners in building a more transparent future!

On April 10th, our team took the Democracy Beyond Election (DBE) Project to the heart of the Ngojin community. It wasnโ€™t just a meeting; it was a powerful dialogue about shifting the narrative from politics as usual to grassroots accountability.

We dived deep into:

The Power of the Card: Why acquiring your voter card is the first step in claiming your seat at the table.

Service Over Symbols: Moving past party colors to elect candidates who truly prioritize the community's urgent needs.

People over Party: A reminder that leadership belongs to the people, and our collective interest must always come first.

Huge thanks to the people of Ngojin for their hospitality and for being active participants in shaping a more transparent future.

This evening, at the CGPRD's head Office in Damaturu, Yobe State, our team had a productive and engaging meeting (virtually) with His Excellency Pieter Leenknegt, Ambassador of Belgium to Nigeria.

During the discussion, CGPRD shared key ongoing initiatives, including:

- Democracy Beyond Elections (DBE): advancing civic participation, accountability, and active citizenship beyond electoral cycles.

- Mahangar Alโ€™umma (Community Observatory): generating grassroots insights and amplifying community voices to inform policy and decision-making.

- Our work on the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agenda, promoting meaningful youth inclusion in peacebuilding and governance processes.

His Excellency commended CGPRDโ€™s approach, particularly our commitment to linking the lived realities of communities with national and global policy frameworks. He also recognised our practical commitment to gender equality, reflected in the strong representation and leadership of young women within our organisation.

The meeting concluded with positive momentum towards continued collaboration between CGPRD and the Embassy of Belgium in Nigeria.

We sincerely thank His Excellency for the warm reception and insightful exchange, and we look forward to the opportunities this engagement will bring.

Today is World Tuberculosis Day. ๐ŸŒ Itโ€™s a day to remember that while weโ€™ve made incredible medical progress, TB still impacts communities worldwide.

This is also a day to celebrate the genuine work of some organizations. Special shout out to The Aurum Institute for their immense contributions.

The path to ending TB starts with awareness, early detection, and ending the stigma around setting tested.

Let's keep pushing for a healthier future for everyone! ๐Ÿฉบ
