Celebrated on October 5, International Teachers’ Day recognises the vital role teachers play in shaping societies, improving learning outcomes, and nurturing future generations. In Nigeria, where teachers remain central to education reform, the day also highlights the importance of investing in their skills, wellbeing and professional development.

Recognising that quality education depends significantly on effective teachers, the TY Danjuma Foundation continues to invest in teacher professional development, STEM education, education leadership, curriculum delivery and other capacity-building initiatives. Through partnerships with civil society organisations, government agencies, educational institutions and development actors, over 12,000 teachers have been trained and retrained across 20 states since 2010.

As we mark International Teachers’ Day 2026, the TY Danjuma Foundation celebrates the dedication, resilience and invaluable contributions of teachers across Nigeria. We remain committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen the teaching profession, improve learning outcomes, and create better opportunities for children and young people.

From medication and corrective glasses to minor and major surgeries, the free eye care intervention in Bassa, Plateau State, delivered much-needed care to members of the community last week.

Day 5 and final day of the Free Eye Care Intervention in Bassa, Plateau State, marks another impactful day of providing essential eye care services to communities.

In partnership with CAVSI, the intervention has so far reached 1,699 beneficiaries, with 1,699 eye screenings conducted, including 659 school children.

The intervention has provided:
💊 615 eye medications
👓 437 corrective eyeglasses
🏥 72 eye surgeries
👁️ 42 cataract surgeries

Behind every number is a person with an opportunity to see more clearly, learn better, work confidently and live with improved quality of life.

This impact would not be possible without partnership and community. ❤️

DAY 4 : The impact continues at our ongoing free eye care intervention in Bassa, Plateau State, in partnership with CAVSI.

we have recorded:

🔹 212 registrations
🔹 212 screenings
🔹 165 medications provided
🔹 96 pairs of glasses dispensed
🔹 17 surgeries completed, including 12 cataract surgeries.

Each number represents a person receiving the care they need and another step towards reducing preventable blindness. 👓❤️

Day 3 of the Free Eye Care Intervention in Bassa, Plateau State, is making a meaningful difference.

Today, 276 people registered, 204 school children screened, 184 medications provided, 144 pairs of glasses dispensed, and 17 surgeries successfully carried out.

Through the partnership between TY Danjuma Foundation and Care Vision Support Initiative, access to essential eye care is being brought closer to communities—helping them see better and live better. 💙🧡
