It is with great sadness that I have to tell you of the sudden death of Johnny Walsh, Gozo Johnny.

Johnny had lived on the islands for over 30 years and was a popular, kind hearted and generous gentleman. He had been a member of the British Residents' Association for many years and each year organised the Treasure Hunt in Gozo, which was extremely popular. There will be a memorial service at the Seminary on Wednesday 14th October.

In Memory of Joe D’Amato

We were very saddened to hear of the passing of Joe D’Amato, a long-standing and much-valued member of our Sliema/St Julian’s Group.

Joe was a familiar and friendly face at our coffee mornings and lunches, and it was always a pleasure to stop and have a chat with him. His warmth, smile and company will be greatly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his wife Josephine, and with all his family and friends at this very sad time.

Rest in peace, Joe. You will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.

🩸 Some very welcome news for Malta’s British community! 🇲🇹🇬🇧

The long-standing restriction preventing people who lived in the UK for six months or more between 1980 and 1996 from donating blood in Malta has now been lifted.

This means many British residents who have wanted to give blood but were previously unable to do so will now have the opportunity to become donors.

Blood donation is such a simple act that can make an enormous difference — and potentially save lives. ❤️

A really positive and welcome change, and hopefully one that will encourage many new donors to come forward. 🩸👏

If you are British nationals living in Malta please check your residence status and ensure you hold the correct residence permit. Some services particularly for the elderly will not be available to you if you do not hold Permanent Residence.

If you are eligible for Permanent Residence but have not yet applied, it is advisable to change to Permanent Residence.

If you are a paid-up member of the British Residents Association (membership is just €12 per year), we can offer guidance and support with the application process if you need assistance.

If you're unsure about your current status or have any questions, please get in touch and we'll do our best to help.

On behalf of the British Residents' Association, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to Deputy High Commissioner Tristan Gilchrist for his support, friendship, and engagement with our Association during his time in Malta.

His contribution to strengthening the relationship between the British community and the British High Commission has been greatly appreciated.

As he moves on to his new posting, we wish him every success and happiness in this exciting new chapter. We are sure he will be a tremendous asset wherever his career takes him next.

Thank you, Tristan, for all you have done for our Association. We hope Malta will always hold a special place in your heart.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that David Read passed away on Thursday 7th May.

David was a huge supporter of the British Residents Association and a much-valued member of our community. He attended many of our events, regularly provided photographs for the newsletter, he was also a familiar and welcome face at the library.

David was a kind and gentle man, always willing to help others and a friend to everyone who knew him. He will be sadly missed by us all.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences go to his wife Pauline and all of his family at this very sad time.
