💙 400+ YOUNG LIVES REACHED AND WE'RE NOT DONE YET! 💙🌊

Over the summer months, Young Lives Safe Shores reached more than 400 young people through educational campaigns at summer schools and other activities, raising awareness about the importance of staying safe in and around water. Thanks to VOPS - Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector

But water safety isn't just for summer! ☀️🌊

Living on an island means our connection with the sea continues throughout the year. As summer draws to a close, the message remains just as important: understanding the risks, making safer choices and knowing how to respond can make all the difference.

📣 And now, we're opening the opportunity to the wider public!

On Tuesday, 27 October, we'll be joining the youth group that meets every Tuesday in Madliena for a special Young Lives Safe Shores session, bringing interactive learning and practical water safety awareness to even more young people. ❤️

🚑 St John Ambulance & Rescue Malta was at Notte Bianca 2026! 🇲🇹

Our volunteers were out in force during this year's Notte Bianca, providing medical and first aid cover throughout one of Malta's largest cultural events.

With illuminated streets, lively performances and thousands of people celebrating, Valletta came alive for another memorable evening of arts and culture! 🎶🎭

A dedicated first aid post and response teams strategically positioned across the event ensured that medical assistance was readily available whenever needed.

From the initial preparations to the final hours of the festivities, our teams worked together to deliver a coordinated and effective medical response.

👏 A big thank you to all our volunteers for their time, dedication and professionalism, and to the organisers for another successful edition of Notte Bianca!

🚑 75 Years of Tradition. Proud to Be Part of It. 🇲🇹

Last month, St John Ambulance & Rescue Malta was proud to support the 75th anniversary of the Pellegrinaġġ tar-Roti u l-Muturi in Ħaż-Żabbar, the longstanding Maltese tradition held in honour of Our Lady of Graces.

Our volunteers provided medical and first aid cover across two days of celebrations, with ambulance crews and cycle response units deployed to ensure the safety and wellbeing of participants and spectators.

As cyclists, motorcyclists and families came together to celebrate this cherished tradition, our teams remained on hand, ready to respond whenever needed.

👏 Congratulations to the organisers on 75 years of faith, tradition and community spirit!

We are honoured to have played our part in keeping this special occasion safe for everyone.

🌊 Young Lives, Safe Shores continues!

Another group reached, another collaboration strengthened, and more young people equipped with knowledge that can make a difference.

This time, our Water Safety team welcomed the Senior Rangers of Malta Girl Guides for a series of Water Safety Training Sessions, sharing knowledge, experience and practical skills gained through our work in water rescue and emergency response.

It has been fantastic to see Young Lives, Safe Shores continue to bring St John together with youth organisations and communities across Malta, creating opportunities to learn from one another and build a stronger culture of water safety.

A big thank you to Malta Girl Guides and their Senior Rangers for being part of the journey. 💙🌊

🚨 Climbing in remembrance.

This morning, volunteers from St John Ambulance & Rescue took part in the Civil Protection Malta's Annual Stair Climb Challenge at the Upper Barrakka Lift.

The challenge was held in remembrance of the first responders who lost their lives during the attacks of 11 September 2001, honouring the courage, service and sacrifice of those who answered the call that day.

Our volunteers joined fellow members of Malta’s emergency response community, taking each step in their memory.

Five days of learning. And then, it was time to put it all together.

The final full day of our Erasmus+ Youth Exchange on 28th August with DLRG Jugend Bayern started away from the screens, with a scavenger hunt that put teamwork, communication and problem solving to the test. 🔎🏃

In the afternoon, it was time to get creative.

Drawing on everything explored throughout the week, participants worked in groups to turn their ideas into digital awareness content, developing messages around topics such as cyberbullying, misinformation, responsible sharing and healthier digital habits. 💡📲

From choosing the message to deciding how best to communicate it, the session put the young people in the driving seat: creating, discussing and sharing ideas that could help other young people navigate the digital world more safely.

The groups then presented their work to one another, bringing five days of conversations about digital literacy, wellbeing, online and offline balance, mental health and digital resilience together. 🇲🇹🤝🇩🇪

A fitting way to end the programme: not just knowing more about the digital world, but using that knowledge to create something for others.

Knowing how to ask for help is a skill too.

Day 4, the 27th of August shifted the conversation towards mental health support, coping strategies and help-seeking.

Participants began with a simple but important question:
“Who would you go to if you were feeling overwhelmed, upset or stressed?”

From there, role-play scenarios explored real pressures young people may encounter online, including cyberbullying, misinformation, fear of missing out and digital stress, with participants considering healthier ways to respond and where support can be found.

Working in Maltese-German groups, they also researched resources and support available in both countries, creating an opportunity to compare approaches and learn from one another.

After a thoughtful day at Fort Madliena, it was time to experience Malta together with an evening trip to Valletta and dinner by the sea. 🌅

Remembering Queen Elizabeth II

On this day, we remember Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on 8 September 2022 after a remarkable 70-year reign.

For St John, her passing marked the end of a unique chapter in our history. Queen Elizabeth became Sovereign Head of the Order of St John in 1952, upon her accession to the throne, and remained a constant presence and supporter of the St John family throughout her reign.

Her connection with St John extended across the world, including here in Malta, where St John has a long and proud history of service.

Members of St John from Malta were among those who travelled to London to support the crowds at Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation in 1953. The following year, the newly crowned Queen visited Malta, including Gozo, during her first visit to the islands as Sovereign.

Over the decades, Her Majesty also recognised and honoured members of the Maltese St John community for their service.

Today, we remember not only a Queen, but a Sovereign Head of the Order of St John whose life was defined by duty, service and an enduring commitment to others.

The Queen Elizabeth Digital Memorial is creating a lasting record of the memories and experiences people around the world have of Her Majesty.

🎥 TENDER CALL | VIDEOGRAPHY SERVICES

St John Ambulance & Rescue Malta is inviting quotations from suitably qualified videographers / production companies for the provision of videography and video editing services for our project:

“Għajnuna f’waqtha! Taħriġ fl-Ewwel Għajnuna bil-Malti”

The project will produce a series of short, practical First Aid training videos designed to make essential lifesaving knowledge more accessible to Maltese-speaking audiences.

🎬 Scope of Services

The successful service provider will be required to:
* Film and produce 10 short First Aid training videos
* Approximate final duration: 2–3 minutes per video
* Language: Maltese
* Include Maltese voice-over where required
* Include suitable subtitles, titles, transitions and graphics
* Work with St John Ambulance & Rescue volunteers who will feature in the videos
* Ensure a consistent visual style across the full video series
* Deliver final videos suitable for publication on social media, video-sharing platforms and the organisation’s website

📍 Filming
Filming is expected to take place at a maximum of two locations in Malta.
Where possible, filming is ideally to be scheduled on a Saturday, subject to agreement between the production team and St John Ambulance & Rescue.

📅 Timeline
The production must be fully completed by end of November 2026. The first completed videos are required for launch in October 2026, with the remaining videos to follow within the agreed production schedule.
