Today, we have concluded eight training sessions dealing with Road Safety, basic first aid including CPR to children between the ages of 6 to 9, visiting three different schools. Road Safety has always been our pillar of strength within the club and strieve for all possible reachouts. The children have been super responsive when we relate our training sessions to real life scenario. However, success is joining and supporting other entities who believe in our philosopfy of being at the forfront when it comes to training. These sessions are being accredited by Transport Malta, where Touring Club Malta is now part of these entities that are offering such services. Big thank you goes to Jeannette Axisa, Paulette Fenech, Malta Red Cross, Mannie Galea, for giving us this opportunity to crusade towards safer lifes.

Touring Club Malta held its 2025 AGM, last year was a real challenge however the club has continued its crusade towards having proper facilities for motor caravans, a promise by the current authorities which seems to be broken every other day. It is to be noted that 2025 visited Malta quite a few foreign motorcaravans and these ending up trying to locate a place where to stop and recharge. Something which is the norm in neighbouring countries. The 2026 committee members will continue with this crusade towards proper facilities besides offering support to all those that would like to venture overland and also promoting road safety to all ages.

Italian highway code: Alcolock decree comes into force for repeat offenders
01-08-2025
The Italian Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, has signed the decree making the alcolock mandatory for drivers previously sanctioned for driving with a blood-alcohol level above 0.8 g/l. This device, an alcohol ignition interlock, will prevent the vehicle from starting if the driver’s breath test shows any alcohol.

This significant update to the Italian Highway Code, effective from December 14, 2024, aims to enhance road safety by targeting repeat offenders. The decree outlines precise specifications for the device and its installation, providing guidelines for authorized workshops and users. Alcolocks can be installed on various vehicle types and must meet European standards. Manufacturers are required to provide detailed instructions, and authorized installers must apply a tamper-proof seal. Drivers will need to present proof of installation and a valid calibration certificate during roadside checks; no update to the vehicle registration document is required. This is what road safety us all about and in Malta the local police just have their hands tighted up.

Dear Friends,

I hope this message finds you well.

As you may know, we have been collecting donations for Puttinu Cares every weekend at Għadira Car Park from all camper/cavern owners since October 2024, just like we did last year.

We are pleased to share that on Saturday 24th May, Angèle and Rennie of Puttinu cares, will be joining us for a coffee between 3 pm and 4pm Għadira Car Park. It will be a lovely opportunity to catch up and spend some quality time together.

If you’d like to join us—even if not with your camper—you are more than welcome to come by!

Looking forward to seeing you there!
