⚠️Obstacles are piling up for the controversial hydropower project the Upper Horizons. Works on the Dabar hydropower plant – part of the planned complex – have been reduced to a minimum as the China Eximbank stopped disbursing funds.
The Upper Horizons complex would have devastating, wide-ranging impacts on people and biodiversity. It would affect not only Republika Srpska but also the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Neretva delta in Croatia.
This month, Bankwatch joined the Centar za životnu sredinu / Center for Environment and a group of journalists on a visit to some of the regions under threat. The negative impacts and problems around the complex provide a much-needed opportunity to rethink the project.
It’s not too late for Republika Srpska to cut its losses and pursue less damaging energy projects!
