General information
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE MOST GRACIOUS, THE MOST MERCIFUL PREAMBLE We, the Muslim students of the University of Liberia: Praise and thank the Almighty Allah, seek His help and forgiveness, seek refuge in Him from the evils of our souls and the mischief of our deeds. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah; He has no Partner and possesses real sovereignty. We bear witness that Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) is His Servant and Messenger; the Seal of the Prophets and the Leader of the God-fearing. Having resolved to live in peace, harmony and unity under the banner of an Association; in order to glorify the word of Allah, disseminate information about the tenets of Islam and seek the general welfare of one another as well as promote the objectives of said Association, do hereby solemnly establish and publish this Constitution for the governance of said Association. Article I: NAME The Association shall be called the University of Liberia Muslim Student Association, with the acronym ULMSA. Article II: MOTTO The Motto of the Association shall be: “HOLD FAST ALL TOGETHER TO THE ROPE OF ALLAH, AND BE NOT DIVIDED AMONG YOURSELVES” (QUR’AN 3:103) Article III: NATURE The Association shall be an independent entity detached from all control, influence and/or intervention outside itself, except through suggestions or recommendations. Article IV: OBJECTIVES The objectives of the University of Liberia Muslim Student Association (ULMSA) shall be: A. To increase Islamic awareness among the Students and provide Islamic alternative for solving problems of contemporary relevance; B. To explore ways and means of acquiring financial aid and scholarship opportunities for deserving Muslim Students; C. To create and maintain peaceful and conducive atmosphere for the propagation of Islam on and outside the campuses of the University of Liberia; D. To establish, maintain and foster friendly ties, peaceful co-existence and good working relationships with non-Muslim Students, Campus-based Organizations and all component parts of the University of Liberia’s Family; E. To embark upon appropriate educational programs, development-oriented projects and counseling services for the betterment of all; and Article VII: HEADQUARTERS The Headquarters of the Association shall be located on the main campus of the University of Liberia, or outside the campuses as otherwise determined by the prevailing emergency situation. Article VIII: MEMBERSHIP The Association shall have three kinds of Membership: A. Full Membership B. Associate Membership C. Honorary Membership Section I: Full Membership Full Membership shall be opened to all legally registered Muslim Students currently enrolled at the University of Liberia. Full Members of the Association shall enjoy all constitutional rights, including the rights to nominate, vote, etc. Section II: Associate Membership The Associate Membership shall be opened to all Graduate Muslim Students pursuing their second degrees. Such members shall enjoy the rights to vote or be voted for. Section III: Honorary Membership The Association shall confer Honorary Membership on distinguished Islamic personalities at home or abroad, who play active roles in supporting the Association and/or are engaged in Islamic Membership. Section IV: Application for Membership Membership forms shall be obtained, filled in and presented to the Membership Committee for the approval of the Executive Committee, at least a week before a General Meeting. Each member shall be required to fill in the Association’s Membership Form for as a “sine-qua-non’ to full-fledged Membership
