👩🏻‍🎓北名 美雨
弱視者が保有している視機能に応じて最大限の力を発揮できるよう、視覚特性と読みパフォーマンスの関係を解明する研究に取り組んでいる。今後は実験心理学的手法を用いて表示形態の最適化による読みやすい文字の開発に取り組み、将来的には、科学的根拠に基づいた支援方法を確立し、ユニバーサルデザインの構築を通じて、すべての人が
機会を損失せず社会に参加できる環境の整備に貢献することを目標としている。

CWAJ Scholarship for the Visually Impaired to Study in Japan (SVI-SJ)
👩🏻‍🎓Miu KITANA
Kitana is doing research to understand the relationship between visual characteristics and reading performance in individuals with low vision, aiming
to help them maximize their functional vision capabilities. Using experimental psychology methods, she works on developing more readable text through
optimized display formats. Her approach investigates how visual parameters affect reading efficiency across varying levels of visual impairment. Her goal is to establish scientifically-based support methods and contribute to universal design that creates inclusive environments where everyone can participate in
society without experiencing barriers to information access.

化学系の研究室にてMetal Organic Frameworks(MOFs)に関する研究を行っている。実験等で不便に感じることはあるが、視覚障害者である私が、化学の研究を通して晴眼者にも見えない原子や分子の挙動について解明しようとする研究はとても達成感があり楽しいことである。

He will share the 230-year tradition of cameo and coral craftsmanship, along with the remarkable history of how Mikimoto pearls were introduced to Europe.

（日本語は英語の下に）Nihonga painter Allan West welcomed CWAJ Reading Group on Mar. 12 to Art Sanctuary Allan West, his studio and gallery in Nezu. Having read and discussed Allan’s memoir, “They Hang Me in Tokyo: A Barbarian Artist’s Life-Changing Journey to Master Nihonga, the Traditional Art of Japan,” participants were honored to meet the artist and his wife in person and savor the beauty of his paintings.
The Nezu area of Tokyo is steeped in history. Allan wrote in his book, “The façade of my present studio was built in the 1730’s. In the district where my studio is, the average temple is around 300 years old.” Stepping back further in time, his use of mineral pigments mixed with glue made from deer protein continues the legacy of 11th century artists, whose luminous works can still be appreciated today in their original splendor. 3月12日、日本画家アラン・ウェスト氏は、根津にある自身のアトリエ兼ギャラリー「アート・サンクチュアリ・アラン・ウェスト」にて、CWAJ読書会メンバーを歓迎しました。参加者は、アラン氏の回顧録『They Hang Me in Tokyo: A Barbarian Artist’s Life-Changing Journey to Master Nihonga, the Traditional Art of Japan』を読み、議論を交わした後、作家本人と奥様に直接お会いし、その絵画の美しさを堪能する光栄に浴しました。
東京の根津地区は歴史に満ちた場所です。アランは著書の中で、「現在の私のアトリエのファサードは1730年代に建てられました。アトリエのあるこの地区では、寺院の平均築年数は約300年です」と記しています。 さらに時代を遡れば、彼が使用する鉱物顔料と鹿のタンパク質から作られた糊の組み合わせは、11世紀の画家たちの伝統を受け継ぐものです。彼らの輝かしい作品は、今日でも当時のままの輝きを保って鑑賞することができます。詳細やアトリエのバーチャルツアーについては、https://www.allanwest.jp/ をご覧ください。

2002 CWAJ Scholar Sangita Rajbongshi Das recently participated in the International Conference on Communication & Media at Visva Bharati University, West Bengal, India. She presented her research on the role of broadcasting media in enhancing early evacuation during disasters.

2002年度CWAJ奨学生サンギタ・ラジボンシ・ダスは、このほどインド・西ベンガル州のヴィシュヴァ・バーラティ大学で開催された「コミュニケーション・メディア国際会議」に参加し、災害時の早期避難促進における放送メディアの役割に関する研究を発表しました。
