🇪🇸 Barcelona – Day 3 🇪🇺

The final day of the transnational event brought us to the Parliament of Catalonia, where participants were welcomed by local authorities.

During the morning, the draft manifesto developed throughout the previous days was presented; the result of collective work, dialogue and shared reflections across the whole group 📜

📍 During the day, participants also had the opportunity to take part in a guided visit to the Ajuntament de Barcelona, gaining further insight into the city’s institutional and civic landscape.

The session concluded with a final evaluation, marking the end of three intense days of exchange, learning and collaboration in Barcelona.

This is not an ending, but part of a wider journey. From Brussels to Lampedusa, from Calais to Budapest, each stop of has contributed to building a shared vision shaped by different voices and experiences ✨

🇪🇸 Barcelona – Day 2 🇪🇺

The second day of the transnational event took place at the Museum of the History of Catalonia, in the heart of Barcelona.

📍 The morning was dedicated to a guided visit of the exhibition “The Roma people of Catalonia: history and culture”, led by Mercedes Porras Soto. Through the exhibition, participants explored the historical presence, cultural contributions and lived experiences of Roma communities in the region.

The visit continued with an open discussion, creating space for questions, reflections and shared perspectives.

In the afternoon, we moved into a reflection workshop focused on the co-creation of the project’s manifesto. Working together, participants exchanged ideas, experiences and visions, contributing to a collective text shaped by dialogue and collaboration.

A day centred on history, awareness and joint creation ✨

🇪🇸 Barcelona – Day 1 🇪🇺

The first day of the transnational event in Barcelona started yesterday morning in Sant Adrià de Besòs, at the Font de La Mina Cultural Space.

📍 We opened the day with institutional welcomes and an introduction to the programme, before diving into a powerful conference by Vicente Rodriguez — reflecting on the historical discrimination against Roma people and their current situation across Europe and Spain. The discussion continued throughout the morning, leaving space for questions, dialogue and shared reflections among participants

Afterwards, Paco Vargas guided us through the context of La Mina neighbourhood, helping us understand its history, challenges and transformations.

In the afternoon, we had the opportunity to walk through La Mina itself, a guided visit that turned theory into lived experience, connecting stories, places and perspectives ✨

🇪🇸 Barcelona, we’re coming! 🇪🇺

The journey continues and our team is currently on the road to Barcelona, where the next transnational meeting will take place over the coming days together with our partner .

📍 Over the next three days we will explore the history, culture and present-day realities of Roma communities in Catalonia. From La Mina neighbourhood in Sant Adrià de Besòs to the Museum of the History of Catalonia and the Parliament of Catalonia, the programme will combine conferences, guided visits, discussions and a collective workshop.

Together we will reflect on discrimination against Roma people in Europe, learn from local experiences, and work side by side on the co-creation of a shared manifesto.

Three days of dialogue, learning and collaboration are about to begin. Stay tuned — we’ll be sharing moments from Barcelona along the way ✨

🌹 International Women’s Day 🌍

Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate women who build communities every day through commitment, creativity and solidarity.

In Hungary, the experiences of two activists involved in show how care can become a conscious practice of participation and empowerment 💪

Tamara Jara Soto found in a way to connect with the city of Budapest and contribute to a community that promotes cultural diversity, social inclusion and active citizenship.

Nikolett Gábri, through her work with , uses theatre-based methods to help young women imagine their futures, express their voices and strengthen their confidence.

Their stories remind us that European solidarity is not only shaped within institutions, but also in the everyday actions of people, often women, who choose to create spaces of dialogue, support and participation 🤝

Happy International Women’s Day to all the women who, every day, help their communities grow ✨

🇪🇺 The Ways of Europe journey continues across the continent 🚀

The next steps of Ways of Europe will bring the project across Europe, from Barcelona to Turin, Rome and Brussels.

🗓️ The first milestone will be the transnational conference in Barcelona, from 17 to 19 March, focused on combating discrimination and defending minority rights. The program will include workshops, dialogue sessions and field visits, with particular attention to the involvement of local Roma communities.

The event will also lead to the creation of a collective manifesto and a participatory photography exhibition built from the perspectives of the participants 📃

👥 In the following months, the journey will continue with local events across several European countries, the Transnational Citizens’ Assembly in Turin, and the co-creation of the Ways of Europe campaign in Rome.

The project will conclude in autumn in Brussels with a final conference presenting the ideas, proposals and materials developed throughout the project 💡

📖 Stories from our places – Budapest & Esztergom 🇪🇺

🪧 Last November, reached Hungary, bringing three days of dialogue and collective reflection between Budapest and Esztergom. Hosted by Faktor Terminál l and , the transnational event brought together partners and participants across languages and experiences to explore what democratic engagement means in practice.

In Esztergom, art and theatre with young girls at the Children’s Home showed how culture restores dignity and creates second chances, while in Budapest, workshops on democracy, solidarity and migration led to the Budapest Declaration, turning dialogue into shared commitments for a Europe grounded in freedom and participation 📣

Budapest and Esztergom became, for three days, a civic laboratory where art, dialogue and critical reflection converged, reminding us that democracy is not an abstract principle, but a practice we build together ✨

🇪🇺 Calais Manifesto 📝

Ways of Europe is committed to building a fairer, more equitable, democratic, and free Europe —starting from its symbolic and physical margins.

Meeting in Calais and Dunkerque, places shaped by both industrial transition and human movement, we affirm a simple truth: there is no just transition without migration justice.

The just transition must be a whole-society project, and that includes migrants — in policy, media, education, economy, and culture. Climate change, inequality, and human mobility are interconnected realities.

This manifesto arises from youth across Europe, imagining a continent where ecological transformation and human dignity advance together.

Youth Voices for a Europe that Includes, Integrates, and Innovates.

💎 Values from our places – Humanity 🤝

🔍 On 30 September, during the second day of the transnational event Across borders: from human rights and sustainability to the future of Europe, participants moved to Calais, a place where the meaning of humanity is constantly put to the test.

The visit, organized by , led the group to the , a symbolic space where the daily struggle against the structural dehumanization of refugees unfolds. Here, humanity takes shape through action: some participants joined the kitchen, others prepared clothes and supplies, all contributing to small acts of daily resistance that, together, become acts of dignity 🌍

During the visit, the group also met some of the organizations that work daily on the frontline of solidarity, like , , .56calais_gs and .

From this experience emerges a shared awareness: humanity is not an abstract value, but a daily practice, sustained by communities that choose solidarity even where systems fail ✨

🗣️ Voices from our places – Khaled 🇮🇹

🌊 Khaled Abdallah, Palestinian refugee and operator at .scs in Rome, shared his testimony during the transnational event in Lampedusa, shortly before the screening of the documentary created by the students of the local high school.

📍 “I was born and raised in refugee camps, always carrying the feeling of being temporary and stateless”:Khaled spoke about a life lived on the margins, marked by the constant question “Where do I truly belong?”. His story retraced the dangerous journey across the sea, “with every wave, I thought: this could be the last one”.

🤝 Arriving in Europe meant starting again from nothing: “I was looking for dignity, rights, and inclusion, but what I met was fear and suspicion”. He recalled sleeping in parks and on the streets, until education and civil service opened a new path: “ARCI Solidarietà became the home I proudly belong to, the place that listened to me and stood by me”.

📣 Today, Khaled gives back by supporting others who are walking the same path. “With every step I take, I carry my story with me and try to be the voice for those who didn’t make it”. Through Ways of Europe, his words become a collective call: “We are not just refugees. We are human beings with a story, a dream, and the right to belong”.

Thank you, Khaled, for being a voice for those who are too often unheard ✨

📖 Stories from our places — Dunkerque & Calais 🇪🇺

🪧 This autumn, Ways of Europe brought partners, young people and local actors to Dunkerque and Calais for a two-day conference dedicated to voices, borders and shared responsibility. Across workshops, collective actions and encounters, these places became spaces of listening, participation and civic engagement.

From Dunkerque, where sustainability, migration and social justice were explored through storytelling and podcasting, to Calais, where participants met local organisations and experienced Europe’s borders firsthand, the conference reminded us that borders are not only lines on a map — they are lived realities that call for solidarity and action 📣

These shared moments continue to shape , reinforcing the idea that Europe is built in places where people meet, exchange and stand together ✨

📝 2026: New Year, New Challenges 🇪🇺

A new year has begun, and Ways of Europe is ready to continue its journey in the name of participatory democracy across Europe ✨

In 2026, the project moves forward with new milestones and shared objectives. One of the key moments ahead will be the publication of the Calais–Dunkirk Manifesto, the result of collective work, dialogue and reflections developed together with communities across Europe ✍️

At the same time, we are preparing for our next Transnational Event in Barcelona, where partners, participants and stakeholders will come together once again to exchange perspectives, strengthen connections and imagine new paths for democratic participation 🤝

🌍 There is a lot ahead of us: ideas in progress, voices to amplify and questions to explore together.Follow us as we continue this shared European journey, step by step 🚀
