Bridging Generations & Faith: A Powerful Week at the Asia-Oceania Congress 2026! 🌍✨
Delegates, leaders, and youth from across the region gathered at St. Louis School in Hong Kong from October 22 to 26 for an incredible five days of connection, reflection, and forward-thinking dialogue. Hosted by the Hong Kong Federation of Don Bosco Past Pupils, this year’s assembly tackled a vital theme: “Shall We Talk? Communication Across Generations & Faith.”
Here are the key takeaways from this historic gathering:
🚀 From "Safe Spaces" to "Brave Spaces"
World Federation President Bryan Magro and World Delegate Fr. Filiberto González challenged us to rethink traditional Salesian settings. The future of our movement depends on empowering youth to voice bold ideas, take on leadership roles, and act as real decision-makers in our mission.
🙌 A Three-Dimensional Path for Dialogue
Hong Kong Federation President Andrew K. Yuen mapped out a clear framework for meaningful communication:
• The Lower Dimension: Mentoring and accompanying our juniors.
• The Horizontal Dimension: Cultivating regional solidarity and cooperation among peers.
• The Upper Dimension: Honoring the wisdom of our seniors and anchoring everything in faith.
🤖 Faith, AI, and Human Intelligence
Fr. Matthew Chan delivered an eye-opening keynote on technology and empathy, sharing a striking study revealing that 46% of Hong Kong youth now turn to AI for emotional support. The takeaway? Educators and mentors must bridge the digital world with authentic human empathy.
As delegates head home, we carry a renewed mandate: to ensure every generation has a voice, every individual finds a home, and every encounter helps us grow together in faith.

☕️ From 50 Cents to Changing Lives: A Lesson in Social Capital

Peter, Alessandro, Joseph, Charles, and I had the privilege of visiting ‘Friends of Mothers’ in Mbale City, Uganda.

We witnessed an incredible masterclass in how community and collaboration can truly transform lives.

Frank and his dedicated team shared the inspiring journey of this project. What started with just 50 cents is now in its 9th year of impactful operation.

🌍 The Impact at a Glance:

* Empowering Mothers: Helping vulnerable women join a thriving social cooperative.
* Premium Coffee: Producing high-quality coffee beans now exported to Europe and the US.
* Massive Reach: Over 500 mothers empowered and 3,500 direct beneficiaries supported.
* Core Pillars: Driven by fair trade principles and sound financial management.

This visit proved how a bold dream can reshape reality for vulnerable families. Because of this initiative, children are fed, youth are educated, and families are breaking the cycle of poverty. This is what it looks like to restore dignity through economic empowerment.

🇺🇬 Strengthening Our Mission: A Bright Future for Don Bosco Past Pupils and Friends in Uganda! 🌟.

It was an absolute pleasure meeting with the National Federation of Past Pupils and Friends of Don Bosco in Uganda, alongside representatives from our vibrant local groups. 🤝✨.

Reflecting on the incredible progress achieved over the last four years fills us with amazement and immense gratitude. The number of initiatives and activities is a true testament to our shared commitment to the mission of Don Bosco.

Thank you to everyone working so hard! 🙏❤️.

As we celebrate these milestones, we also looked ahead. Navigating today’s world requires us to build strong, resilient organizations. We had fruitful discussions on how to enhance our institutional capacity as an NGO through:
📘 Training & Formation – Equipping our teams with the right skills.
💡 Mentoring & Youth Leadership – Investing heavily in the next generation of leaders.
🗺️ Strategic Planning – Setting a clear roadmap to strengthen our organization and secure a bright future.
