☕️ From 50 Cents to Changing Lives: A Lesson in Social Capital

Peter, Alessandro, Joseph, Charles, and I had the privilege of visiting ‘Friends of Mothers’ in Mbale City, Uganda.

We witnessed an incredible masterclass in how community and collaboration can truly transform lives.

Frank and his dedicated team shared the inspiring journey of this project. What started with just 50 cents is now in its 9th year of impactful operation.

* Premium Coffee: Producing high-quality coffee beans now exported to Europe and the US.
* Massive Reach: Over 500 mothers empowered and 3,500 direct beneficiaries supported.
* Core Pillars: Driven by fair trade principles and sound financial management.

This visit proved how a bold dream can reshape reality for vulnerable families. Because of this initiative, children are fed, youth are educated, and families are breaking the cycle of poverty. This is what it looks like to restore dignity through economic empowerment.

🇺🇬 Strengthening Our Mission: A Bright Future for Don Bosco Past Pupils and Friends in Uganda! 🌟.

It was an absolute pleasure meeting with the National Federation of Past Pupils and Friends of Don Bosco in Uganda, alongside representatives from our vibrant local groups. 🤝✨.

Reflecting on the incredible progress achieved over the last four years fills us with amazement and immense gratitude. The number of initiatives and activities is a true testament to our shared commitment to the mission of Don Bosco.

Thank you to everyone working so hard! 🙏❤️.

As we celebrate these milestones, we also looked ahead. Navigating today’s world requires us to build strong, resilient organizations. We had fruitful discussions on how to enhance our institutional capacity as an NGO through:
📘 Training & Formation – Equipping our teams with the right skills.
💡 Mentoring & Youth Leadership – Investing heavily in the next generation of leaders.
🗺️ Strategic Planning – Setting a clear roadmap to strengthen our organization and secure a bright future.
🗣️ Stronger Communication - our most vital tool. Clear, consistent, and transparent communication will connect us together, amplify our impact, and keep our global family united in purpose. 📢🌐

Together, we are building a solid foundation to serve our young people even better. The future is bright, and our journey continues! ✨

(ANS – Malta) – Nel corso degli anni, milioni di persone sono passate attraverso le case e le istituzioni salesiane di tutto il mondo: cortili vivaci, aule, laboratori, centri giovanili, oratori, parrocchie e missioni. Alcuni rimangono strettamente legati a quelle radici, mentre molti si sono allontanati. Eppure tutti hanno incontrato, in un modo o nell’altro, Don Bosco, un uomo che amava e credeva profondamente nei giovani.

Vito Gentile ... A friend and loyal past pupil of Don Bosco who for many years served as a volunteer for the Salesian Family in the General House in Pisana and Sacre Cuor. May the Lord be at the gates of heaven to welcome you to Don Bosco's garden in heaven! Condolences to all his family and friends.

After more than two years of dialogue, communion, and discernment, the revised Statute of the World Confederation of Past Pupils and Friends of Don Bosco was promulgated by the Rector Major, Fr. Fabio Attard, SDB, on the feast of Blessed Philip Rinaldi, founder of this international organisation.

This new Statute marks a significant milestone in the history of the movement, which is the largest group within the Salesian Family and is inclusive to all believers. The World Confederation continues to learn from the past, discern the signs of the times, and shape its future.

Change is necessary to strengthen the mission of this movement: to be witnesses of the education and formation received from Don Bosco as a gift, and to participate actively in the mission with young people, especially those who are forgotten.

Today we celebrate Blessed Philip Rinaldi, who inspired the creation of the International Federation of the Old Boys of Don Bosco. This federation is now known as the World Confederation of Past Pupils and Friends of Don Bosco, the largest group within the Salesian Family. The movement extends across more than 130 countries wherever the Salesian Congregation is present.
