๐Ÿ“ฌ SB64 Update: Impressions and Faces from the Second Week of Negotiations

As we move into the final days of the SB64 negotiations in Bonn, and following a first week of coverage and technical analysis led by Daniela Alba, we now share a different perspective. Father Filipe Martins, SJ, Director of JESC, has taken over our on-site coverage and offers a deeply personal reflection on his first days at the conference.

Amid the ongoing discussions on climate finance at SB64, we share the recent and powerful video message from Pope Leo XIV for the Tenth Austrian World Summit.
In his message, the Holy Father makes a firm call for a just transition toward societies where the common good takes precedence over profit, and economic models are rooted in solidarity and human dignity. Furthermore, he highlights an unavoidable demand for climate justice: wealthier countries must financially support poorer nations and help create a new, person-centered international financial framework.

๐ŸŽฅ ๐•๐จ๐ข๐œ๐ž๐ฌ ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ง (๐’๐๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ’): Rohan Dominic, a Claretian priest from Sri Lanka, shares his experience as the head of the Claretian Missionariesโ€™ team to the United Nations in New York, a role he has held since 2017. He also serves as one of the coordinators of JCoR, a coalition of 20 Catholic non-governmental organisations representing more than 200 congregations of women and men religious at the UN.

Having followed the full first week of SB64 in Bonn, Rohan reflects on the main topics, challenges, and hopes emerging from this yearโ€™s negotiations. He describes these first days as intense and demanding, highlighting the complexity of the UN process as Parties work towards consensus on climate finance, the transition away from fossil fuels, and the establishment of mechanisms for a just transition.
