CIPT The Centers for International Projects Trust (CIPT) is a non – profit organisation based in New Delhi and is established by Columbia Water Center, New York.

CIPT works on developing and piloting new models for effective water and energy management. The Centers for International Projects Trust (CIPT) is the India Office of the Columbia Water Center. Affiliated with the Earth Institute at Columbia University in New York, the Center is uniquely positioned to apply rigorous, multi-disciplinary research to solve difficult on-the-ground water resources and

climate-related water risk problems. In collaboration with government agencies, civil society and private sector partners, CIPT is developing new models and research paradigms for effective water and energy management in various States of India. ਮਾਰਚ ਦੀ ਤਪਦੀ ਗਰਮੀ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਦੇ ਓਲਾਵਰਖਾ ਤੱਕ, ਮੌਸਮ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਿਜ਼ਾਜ ਹੀ ਭੁੱਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ — ਪਰ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਬਦਲਾਅ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਉੱਤਰੀ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਲ ਹੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਣਕ ਦੀ ਫਸਲ ਨੇ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਦੋ ਵੱਡੇ ਮੌਸਮੀ ਝਟਕੇ ਸਹੇ — ਦਾਣਾ ਬਣਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਜ਼ੁਕ ਪੜਾਅ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਗਰਮੀ, ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਬਾਅਦ ਤੇਜ਼ ਮੀਂਹ ਅਤੇ ਓਲਾਵਰਖਾ। ਹੁਣ ਜਦੋਂ ਖਰੀਫ਼ ਸੀਜ਼ਨ ਨੇੜੇ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਵੱਧਦੇ ਤਾਪਮਾਨ, ਅਨਿਯਮਿਤ ਵਰਖਾ ਅਤੇ ਐਲ ਨੀਨੋ ਕਾਰਨ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਮਾਨਸੂਨ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾ ਮੌਸਮੀ ਅਣਿਸ਼ਚਿਤਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਬਣਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।

ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਚੁਣੌਤੀ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਖੇਤੀ ਹੁਣ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਰਵਾਇਤੀ ਮੌਸਮੀ ਤਜਰਬਿਆਂ ‘ਤੇ ਨਿਰਭਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੀ। ਬੀਜਾਈ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ, ਫਸਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੋਣ, ਸਿੰਚਾਈ ਦੇ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਕੀਟ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਨ—ਹਰ ਪੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੁਣ ਹੋਰ ਵੱਧ ਸਟੀਕਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਲਚਕੀਲੇਪਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ।

ਫਿਰ ਵੀ, ਖੇਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਚਕਤਾ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਨਵੀਂ ਸੋਚ ਜਨਮ ਲੈ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਸਮੇਂ ਸਿਰ ਬੀਜਾਈ, ਗਰਮੀ ਸਹਿਨਸ਼ੀਲ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ, DSR, ਮਲਚਿੰਗ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਚੱਜੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਨ ਵਰਗੇ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਹੌਲੀ-ਹੌਲੀ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਖੇਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਥਾਵਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਵੱਧ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਖਤਰਾ ਘਟਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਤਪਾਦਕਤਾ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

CIPT ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸੀਂ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਟਿਕਾਊ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਸਮ-ਅਨੁਕੂਲ ਖੇਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਥਾਵਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਗਰੂਕਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ—ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਮੌਸਮੀ ਅਣਿਸ਼ਚਿਤਤਾ ਦੀ ਭੇਟ ਨਾ ਚੜ੍ਹੇ।

From scorching March afternoons to April hailstorms, the weather seems unable to make up its mind — but for farmers, these shifts carry very real consequences.

Across North India, wheat crops recently endured back-to-back climate shocks: extreme heat during grain filling, followed by intense rainfall and hail. And as the Kharif season approaches, concerns around rising temperatures, erratic rainfall, and the possibility of an El Niño-driven weak monsoon are once again bringing climate uncertainty into sharp focus.

What makes this moment particularly challenging is that farming can no longer rely on seasonal memory alone. Sowing windows, crop varieties, irrigation methods, and even pest management now require far greater precision and adaptability than before.

Yet resilience is also quietly taking root in the fields. From timely sowing and heat-tolerant varieties to DSR, mulching, and smarter water management, farmers across Punjab are increasingly exploring climate-wise agricultural practices that help reduce risk while protecting productivity.

At CIPT, we continue to work closely with farming communities to build awareness around sustainable and climate-responsive farming solutions—ensuring that the hard work and care invested by farmers in the field are not swept away by a season of uncertainty.

ਇਸ ਖਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਣ ਲਈ, CIPT ਵੱਲੋਂ ਬਠਿੰਡਾ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ ਹਰ ਬਲਾਕ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੋਆਪਰੇਟਿਵ ਸੋਸਾਇਟੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੋਲਿਜ ਹੱਬ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਮੁਦਾਇਕ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ—ਜੋ ਪਿੰਡ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਰਜਕਾਰੀ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਹਨ—ਵਿੱਚ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਇਹ ਹੱਬ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਪਹੁੰਚਯੋਗ, ਸਥਾਨਕ ਅਤੇ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ।

ਇਸ ਪਹਿਲ ਰਾਹੀਂ, CIPT ਦਾ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਖੇਤ ਪੱਧਰ ‘ਤੇ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਸਾਖਰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਕਰਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਉਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਮੁਦਾਇਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ। ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਜਾਗਰੂਕਤਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਗੋਂ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਵੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਣਿਸ਼ਚਿਤ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਦਾ ਡਟ ਕੇ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

During a recent visit to the Manwala Cooperative Society in the Talwandi Sabo block of Bathinda, Senior Field Supervisor Angrej Singh reflected on a challenge increasingly visible across rural agricultural landscapes: while farmers possess deep experiential knowledge and resilience, access to timely, research-based information often remains fragmented at the field level.

To bridge this divide between scientific knowledge and on-ground practice, CIPT is establishing Knowledge Hubs across cooperative societies in every block of Bathinda district. Positioned within these community institutions—the social and operational nerve centres of village life—the hubs are designed to make agricultural learning more accessible, localized, and continuous.

Each hub functions as a practical learning space where farmers can engage with season-specific agricultural literature, visual learning materials, and simplified informational displays that translate complex agronomic concepts into accessible insights. From soil health and crop planning to climate-responsive farming practices, the resources are curated to support informed decision-making throughout changing agricultural cycles.

Through this initiative, CIPT aims to strengthen grassroots agricultural literacy and ensure that critical knowledge reaches farmers within their own communities. By embedding learning directly into rural spaces, the initiative seeks to cultivate not only awareness, but also the confidence required to navigate an increasingly uncertain agricultural future with informed resilience.

ਬਰਨਾਲਾ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ ਧੂਰਕੋਟ, ਫਰਵਾਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਠੀਕਰੀਵਾਲ ਸਭਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਈਆਂ Focused Group Discussions ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸਰੋਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੁਸ਼ਲ ਵਰਤੋਂ, ਲੇਜ਼ਰ ਲੈਵਲਰ, AWD ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਟਿਕਾਊ ਖੇਤੀ ਹਸਤਖੇਪਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਹੋਈ। CIPT ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਨਵਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ Digital Farmer Network ਪਲੇਟਫਾਰਮ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਅਤੇ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਮੈਦਾਨੀ ਪਹਿਲਕਦਮੀਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਵੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ।

As Punjab moves toward the Kharif season, the challenge before farmers is no longer limited to improving crop yields alone, but to building resilience amid climatic uncertainty, groundwater stress, and rapidly evolving field realities. In collaboration with the Hindustan Unilever Foundation, CIPT recently conducted a series of field engagements across multiple districts to foster direct dialogue with the stewards of our land. Mr. Sagar Suri from the HUF team remained actively involved throughout, interacting with lead farmers and cooperative secretaries to better understand region-specific concerns and emerging agricultural challenges.

In Jalandhar district, field visits were conducted across the societies of Lallian Kalan, Kohala, and Ummarwal Billa. Discussions centered on paddy and wheat varieties, efficient nutrient management, AWD and the growing role of digital learning platforms in agriculture. Conversations around online training and community-based knowledge exchange reflected an increasing willingness among farmers to engage with technology-supported agricultural learning.

Focused Group Discussions in Barnala district across Dhoorkot, Pharwahi, and Thikriwal societies centered on resource efficiency, laser leveller usage, AWD, and other sustainable agricultural interventions. Prem Singh and Navdeep Kaur from CIPT also guided farmers on the use of the Digital Farmer Network platform and shared insights into ongoing field-level interventions.

The week culminated in a high-energy awareness camp in Moga, where the spirit of inquiry was palpable. Conversations around paddy nursery management, soil health, irrigation, DSR, seed treatment, pest management, and responsible agrochemical use evolved into dynamic exchanges where every participating farmer actively raised questions and shared field experiences. During the focus group discussion, 25 farmers participated in a candid exchange on field realities, emerging challenges, and evolving agricultural needs. Mr. Sagar Suri highlighted the role of digital advisory platforms like the Digital Farmer Network in enabling timely, accessible, and localized agricultural guidance for farming communities.

ਕਿਸਾਨ ਲਈ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਸਿਰਫ ਕੀੜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਹਮਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ, ਸਗੋਂ ਇਸ ਸਮੱਸਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਬਣੀ ਅਣਸ਼ਚਿਤਤਾ ਸੀ। ਗੁਰਮੇਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਾਲ ਵੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਸਮੱਸਿਆ ਆਈ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਕੋਈ ਸਪਸ਼ਟ ਜਾਂ ਲੰਬੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਲਈ ਕਾਰਗਰ ਹੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ।

In the village of Barna Kheadi in Patiala, farmer Gurmail Singh had been facing a recurring challenge in his Rabi onion crop. Alongside vegetables cultivated on his farm, the onion fields had repeatedly come under attack from mites and sap-sucking insects, leaving the crop weakened season after season. The damage appeared in the form of silvery streaks, curling leaves, and reduced plant vigour—symptoms commonly associated with thrips and mite infestations in onion crops. Such infestations often intensify under dry conditions and can significantly affect bulb quality and yield if not addressed in time.

What troubled the farmer most was not just the infestation itself, but the uncertainty surrounding it. Gurmail Singh shared that he had encountered the same problem the previous year, yet never received a clear or lasting solution.

After the concern was raised with CIPT field cadres, Project Coordinator Kulbir Singh visited the field to closely assess the crop conditions and understand the underlying factors contributing to the recurring infestation. Rather than focusing on temporary remedies alone, the intervention emphasized a more systematic approach to crop health management. Discussions with the farmer centered on strengthening field monitoring, improving crop management practices, understanding environmental stress conditions, and adopting timely preventive measures suited to the local context.

For farmers like Gurmail Singh, such interventions extend beyond immediate problem-solving. They help rebuild confidence that recurring field-level challenges can be addressed through informed observation, scientific understanding, and localized advisory support tailored to the realities of the farm.

During a recent field visit across the villages of Bharwali, Lehra Rohi, Loombriwala, Kokri Kalan, and Kokri Hair in Moga district, CIPT’s Project Coordinator Balraj Singh, along with Dr. Surjit Singh and Field Supervisor Guriqbaal Singh, engaged closely with farmers to better understand the on-ground condition of maize and vegetable crops across both intensive and non-intensive cooperative societies.

The visit focused on addressing practical challenges faced by farmers during the season, particularly around crop protection and input management. Through direct interactions in the fields, the team shared guidance on the careful and need-based use of herbicides and insecticides, encouraging approaches that are both sustainable and cost-effective. Discussions also explored ways to reduce unnecessary input expenditure while maintaining crop health and productivity.

Alongside these field-level conversations, farmers were introduced to the DFN (Digital Farmer Network) app and its role in providing timely advisories, seasonal guidance, and continued access to agricultural information. The interaction sparked meaningful discussions around how digital support systems can strengthen informed decision-making at the grassroots level.

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਵਾ ਖੇਤਰ ਦੀ ਧੁੱਪ ਨਾਲ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਧਰਤੀ ‘ਤੇ, 100 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਸਮੁਦਾਇਕ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਮੋਗਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ—ਇੱਕ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਸਮਝ ਨਾਲ ਕਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਕ ਸਰੋਤ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਗੋਂ ਮਾਂ ਹੈ ਜਿਸਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਲੋੜੀਂਦੀ ਹੈ। CIPT ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਿਵਸ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਮਨਾਉਣੀ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੱਕ ਰਸਮੀ ਇਕੱਠ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ—ਇਹ ਸਾਡੀ ਪਰਿਆਵਰਣਕ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਦਿਲੋਂ ਦੁਹਰਾਵਾ ਸੀ।

ਕਾਰਜਕ੍ਰਮ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਡਾ. ਹਰਦੀਪ ਕੁਮਾਰ (CIPT) ਦੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਿਚਯ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਈ, ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸਕੂਲ ਮੁਖੀ ਬਲਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਰਾਏ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ‘ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਮਾਹੌਲ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਗਹਿਰਾਈ ਮਿਲੀ ਨੁੱਕੜ ਨਾਟਕ ਦੀ ਭਾਵਪੂਰਨ ਪੇਸ਼ਕਸ਼ ਨਾਲ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਕਮੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਦੀ ਦਰਦਨਾਕ ਝਲਕ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਗਈ। ਇਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਖ਼ਮੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਧਰਤੀ ਅੱਗੇ ਬੇਬਸੀ ਭਰੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਹ ਦਰਸਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਲਾਪਰਵਾਹੀ ਦੇ ਕੀ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ—ਪਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਦਾ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਵੀ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਸਾਡਾ “ਨੀਲਾ ਸੋਨਾ,” ਭੂਗਰਭ ਜਲ, ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਬਚਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਿਰ ਕਦਮ ਚੁੱਕੀਏ।

ਚਰਚਾ ਦਾ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਡਾ. ਕੁਲਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਰਖਾਈ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਰ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਹੋਇਆ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੋਗਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਿਆਵਰਣਕ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਦੀ “ਪਹਿਲੀ ਲਾਈਨ ਆਫ ਕੰਟਰੋਲ” ਵਜੋਂ ਦਰਸਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਰਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਰਸਾਇਣਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਸਚੇਤ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੀ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ। ਪੰਚਾਇਤ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਹਰਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਘਰੇਲੂ ਪੱਧਰ ‘ਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਸਹੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ‘ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸਿਲਸਿਲਾ ਵੈਬਿਨਾਰ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਰੀ ਰਿਹਾ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਡਾ. ਮਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੈਦਕਾ ਨੇ ਮਾਲਵਾ ਦੀ ਹਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਪਰਾਲੀ ਸਾੜਨ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ‘ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਜਦਕਿ ਡਾ. ਸੰਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਫਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਬਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਟਿਕਾਊ ਖੇਤੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਇੱਕ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਸਕੂਲੀ ਕੁੜੀ ਦੀ ਦਿਲ ਨੂੰ ਛੂਹਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਪਾਠ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਪੰਚ ਰਾਮਨਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਗਈ ਸਰੋਪਾ ਰਸਮ ਨੇ ਦਿਨ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਵਨਾਤਮਕ ਗਹਿਰਾਈ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ।

ਕਾਰਜਕ੍ਰਮ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਇਕਜੁੱਟ ਮਾਰਚ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਇਆ, ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਰੁੱਖ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਪੌਦੇ ਵੰਡਣ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਹੋਈ—ਇਹ ਉਹ ਪਲ ਸਨ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਜਾਗਰੂਕਤਾ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਦਲੀ। ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਸਮੁਦਾਇ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਫ਼ੈਸਲੇ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਟਿਕਾਊਪਣ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਕਦਮ ਹੋਰ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ, ਡੂੰਘੇ ਅਤੇ ਲੰਬੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੱਕ ਟਿਕਾਊ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ।

In the sun-drenched expanse of Punjab’s Malwa region, over 100 community members gathered in Moga for a shared realization: our Earth is not merely a resource, but a mother in need of care. Hosted by CIPT, this observance of International Mother Earth Day was not just a formal gathering—it was a heartfelt reaffirmation of our ecological responsibility.

The event opened with an insightful introduction by Dr. Hardeep Kumar (CIPT), followed by a compelling address by school headmaster Balwant Singh Rai on the significance of the day. The atmosphere soon deepened with the evocative power of a Nukkad Natak, portraying a haunting future of water scarcity. Through a man’s desperate plea to a wounded Mother Earth, the performance reflected the consequences of human neglect—yet also carried a message of hope: our “blue gold,” groundwater, can still be preserved if we act in time.

The dialogue reached a thoughtful high point with Dr. Kuldeep Singh Markhai, who positioned the women of Moga as the “first line of control” in environmental safety, urging them to question the chemical load entering their fields. Panchayat member Harjeet Kaur reinforced this perspective by highlighting the importance of mindful water use within households.

The exchange of knowledge continued through a webinar session with Dr. Manpreet Singh Jaidka, who emphasized ending stubble burning to protect Malwa’s air, and Dr. Sandeep Singh, who advocated sustainable fruit and vegetable cultivation. A heartfelt poem recitation by a young schoolgirl and a traditional Saropa ceremony led by Sarpanch Ramandeep Singh added emotional depth to the day.

The event culminated in a unified march, followed by tree plantation and sapling distribution—moments where awareness turned into action. Because when communities come together, decisions around water and sustainability grow stronger, deeper, and far more enduring.
