Save Darkness The India's & Asia's first NGO to fight against Light Pollution

Because darkness matters.

Dracula feared sunlight…
But what if today, even darkness isn’t safe anymore? 🦇🌃

Our nights are being swallowed by excessive artificial lighting hiding the stars, disrupting sleep, confusing wildlife, and erasing the beauty of natural darkness.

Light pollution is the environmental issue nobody talks about… until the night disappears completely.

Maybe the real horror story isn’t Dracula.
Maybe it’s a world that never turns its lights off.

What would you want your children to view while they grow?

A child looking up at the night sky should see wonder, not haze.

🌌The "Starry Night" image represents something humanity experienced for thousands of years. A sky filled with stars, the Milky Way visible to the naked eye, and a deep connection with nature and the universe.

🌆The "Skyglow" image reflects a growing reality in many cities today: skyglow caused by excessive and poorly directed artificial lighting, where the stars slowly disappear behind an orange blanket of light pollution.

Light pollution is often misunderstood as merely “too much light,” but its impact goes far beyond visibility. It affects ecosystems, human health, energy consumption, biodiversity, astronomy, and even our emotional connection with the natural world.

Skyglow occurs when artificial light is directed upward or reflected into the atmosphere, scattering through dust and moisture particles and creating a glowing dome over urban areas.

As cities become brighter, the night sky becomes dimmer.

💡 Not all lighting needs to flood an entire room. Sometimes, the smartest lighting is the most focused lighting.

Task lighting is designed to illuminate a specific area for a particular activity whether it’s reading, studying, cooking, working, or creating. From desk lamps and bedside lights to under-cabinet kitchen lighting, task lighting improves visibility exactly where it is needed while reducing unnecessary brightness around us.

Why does this matter?
Because excessive and poorly directed lighting contributes to energy waste, visual discomfort, and light pollution. By using focused lighting instead of overpowering spaces with harsh illumination, we create environments that are more comfortable, energy-efficient, and environmentally responsible. 🌍✨

Good lighting is not about MORE light.
It is about the RIGHT light, in the RIGHT place, at the RIGHT time.

A well-designed task light:
✔ Reduces eye strain
✔ Improves concentration & productivity
✔ Minimizes glare and shadows
✔ Saves energy
✔ Prevents unnecessary light spill

Small lighting choices can make a big environmental impact.

When the night sky turns bright, birds lose their way. 🌌🐦

Artificial light at night is more than just a human convenience—it’s a growing threat to migratory birds. From disrupting their natural navigation to causing fatal collisions, light pollution is silently altering ancient flight paths—especially across key migratory routes like India.

Nearly 80% of the world now lives under “lit skies.” But at what cost?

It’s time to rethink how we light up our nights—because for many species, darkness is survival.

✨ Let’s protect the night. Let’s save lives.

🦔Light pollution disrupts the natural behavior of wildlife, especially migrating birds and nocturnal animals.

🌆 Bright artificial lights confuse birds during migration, causing them to lose direction, collide with buildings, or become exhausted.

🦇For nocturnal creatures, excess light interferes with feeding, mating, and sleep cycles, making them more vulnerable to predators and population decline.
