Apni Shala collaborates with government and low-fee schools and works towards the social and emotional development of children. We help children learn to make better decisions and life choices, work in teams, respect differences among each other, develop empathy for others, understand their own strengths and be the best they can! We use stories and drama and films and games as tools to engage chil

dren in experiential learning. We also help teachers find it within them to nurture a classroom environment that support social and emotional learning! Apni Shala dreams of a day when all schools, through their education programme, offer opportunities for such 'life skills development'. We're supported by:

Across our Mumbai partner schools, Grade 7 students are asking some important questions. From climate justice and safer environments to examining local civic needs, their curiosity is moving.

What follows? These young researchers will now draft hypotheses and research tools, going into their schools or communities to find their answers.

We are grateful to the City As Lab team. Their mentorship in initial years has been crucial for shaping the Grade 7 Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum that centers and empowers our student-researchers.

What is it?

Diversity Shala is a 10-month experiential learning programme that aims to build capacity for diversity, equity, and belonging within educational spaces and communities. Rooted in the philosophy and framework of the National SEED Project (USA), the programme invites participants to engage in personal reflection, dialogue, and action to nurture harmonious co-existence and collective wellbeing.
