| Should AI development move as fast as it can?
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s latest essay, We Must Pace the Frontier, proposes deliberately pacing the development of increasingly capable AI systems, not stopping progress, but creating more time for safety, evaluation and oversight.

His proposal includes embedded independent evaluators, greater coordination among democratic countries, and eventually broader global coordination.

The central question is bigger than one company or one proposal:

Can AI governance keep pace with AI capability?

As frontier systems become more capable, the challenge may be not only how fast we can build them, but how responsibly we can develop, test and govern them.
