Sunflowers Bring New Hope to Mathanpala
In Mathanpala village, Bolangir district, farmers long struggled with rain-fed agriculture, poor soil health, and low Rabi yields. Through CYSD’s PRAYAS initiative, 25 farmers across 25 acres adopted sunflower cultivation using Ajeet 531 seeds, with training and field support. With a low investment of ₹3,000 per acre, this climate-resilient crop is improving soil structure and moisture retention.
The results are promising. With an expected yield of 4 quintals per acre, the cluster may produce 100 quintals, generating around 2,850 litres of oil worth ₹7.12 lakh. After costs, farmers can earn over ₹25,000 each. This initiative not only boosts income but also builds a sustainable and resilient farming future.
