Sunflowers Bring New Hope to Mathanpala

In Mathanpala village, Bolangir district, farmers long struggled with rain-fed agriculture, poor soil health, and low Rabi yields. Through CYSD’s PRAYAS initiative, 25 farmers across 25 acres adopted sunflower cultivation using Ajeet 531 seeds, with training and field support. With a low investment of ₹3,000 per acre, this climate-resilient crop is improving soil structure and moisture retention.

The results are promising. With an expected yield of 4 quintals per acre, the cluster may produce 100 quintals, generating around 2,850 litres of oil worth ₹7.12 lakh. After costs, farmers can earn over ₹25,000 each. This initiative not only boosts income but also builds a sustainable and resilient farming future.

Co-Creating CYSD @50: Accountability & Future Pathways

At the 44th Annual Summit 2026, CYSD envisioned a future rooted in inclusive growth, conservation of Jal, Zameen and Jungle, nutrition security, climate-resilient livelihoods, and strong community-led governance. Emphasis was placed on diversified financing and strengthening social audit systems for greater institutional accountability.

Moving forward, focus areas include a CYSD @50 roadmap, convergence with government programmes to drive sustainable and accountable development.

“Odisha accounts for nearly 12% of India’s CSR budget, roughly 8000 crore by next year. This offers CYSD an opportunity to move from implementation to an enabling role, supporting NGOs, CSOs, and CBOs to effectively utilize CSR resources.”

Ensuring Health Equity for Every Citizen

On this World Health Day, CYSD reaffirms its commitment to "Health for All" by bringing essential medical support directly to the doorsteps of the urban poor in Bhubaneswar’s slums. In these densely populated areas, access to quality healthcare isn't just a service—it’s a lifeline.

Our intervention prioritizes Maternal and Child Health through regular check-ups and vital nutrition support to ensure a healthy start to life, while simultaneously fostering Adolescent Wellbeing by promoting menstrual hygiene and breaking social taboos for young girls. Recognizing the hidden challenges of urban poverty, we provide essential Mental Health counseling and psychosocial support, alongside specialized Geriatric Care that prioritizes our elders through consistent on-site screening for Diabetes and Hypertension.
By integrating these diverse services, CYSD is ensuring that quality healthcare remains accessible, inclusive, and dignity-centered for every resident.
