Our workshop with the Women's Shed New Ross last night created space for honest, respectful conversations about migration, misinformation and our changing communities.

By bringing these conversations into trusted local groups, we can challenge stereotypes, build understanding and strengthen community cohesion across Co. Wexford.

Preparing for the future of community-led organisations in Wexford town by investing in supporting volunteer boards and succession planning.

Research has found that roughly a third of community and voluntary organisations report ongoing struggles to attract new board members, a problem that is significantly more acute for smaller or marginalised groups, groups in areas where there is socio-economic disadvantage or rural groups.

To address this challenge, we engaged the services of JE Warren Consulting to meet with some of the volunteer board members of groups we work with through our Community Development team in Wexford town.
The workshop explored how to build your board, looking to the future.
Lots of food for thought and lots more to do in relation to this issue.

Memorable day for Enniscorthy with the re-opening of โ€‹โ€œThe Hutโ€ - Community Hub at Captain Wafer Hall ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Well done to all in Enniscorthy Community Alliance - we're looking forward to getting in there and using this Sustainable Enniscorthy community venue, which is already taking bookings, at the foot of the Shannon Way.

The reusable party pack is a great idea too ๐Ÿ’ก

Today we had the privilege of engaging with 96 students in Bridgetown College through our Community Connection Project partnership with Schools of Sanctuary Ireland.

Recently published research from the Local Development Companies Network Community Connection Project Learning Partner, More In Common, highlights that schools are among the most important places for building inclusion and community cohesion.

The report found that young people are often more open to new perspectives than adults, and that a single positive encounter can challenge stereotypes and help build understanding across communities. It also recognises schools as a long-term foundation for inclusion, not just a setting for one-off workshops.

Today's conversations with students in Bridgetown focused on belonging, inclusion and creating welcoming communities for everyone. By engaging young people, we are investing in the future of Co. Wexford and helping to build the relationships, understanding and resilience that support strong and cohesive communities.

A big thank you to the staff and students of Bridgetown College and to Schools of Sanctuary for their continued partnership.

We're supporting Maths Week 2026!

Maths Week is an all-island initiative that promotes positive attitudes towards maths and highlights the importance of maths and numeracy in our everyday lives.

By getting behind Maths Week, we want to highlight that numeracy is about much more than maths. We all use numbers in our daily lives, from reading a timetable and managing money to understanding bills and budgeting for household costs.

Follow along in our stories this week as we share some simple messages about maths and numeracy.

A Playful City developed the Playful Street programme as a low-cost, safe way to temporarily transform local streets into vibrant play spaces by restricting vehicle access for a few hours.

This temporary placemaking approach highlights the potential of everyday streets to become lively community hubs, where children can play freely and neighbours can connect. Piloted nationally across Ireland and here in Co. Wexford, specifically in New Ross, in partnership with Sports Active Wexford the initiative fosters stronger community ties and encourages outdoor play.

Last weekend we were delighted to help bring the pilot to Traveller children in Marshmeadows, in addition to earlier events over the summer in Woodbine Close and Ard An Bhile.

The programme addresses key barriers such as traffic safety concerns and the lack of formal road closure processes by creating a community-driven, scalable model. This includes streamlined procedures for temporary street closures, community engagement, playful infrastructure, and risk management. Building on insights from Playful Streets and related programmes, A Playful City drafted an amendment to the Roads Act to support safer, more accessible street play across Ireland.
