📚 September is Rotary’s Basic Education and Literacy Month!

Education has the power to open doors, strengthen communities and create opportunities that last for generations.

Between meetings, DG Drew got to enjoy some tours of another kind!

After visiting Elliott Lake, AG Peter kept DG Drew & wife Janet busy at Dynamic Earth in Sudbury.

They grabbed a hard hat, rode the elevator “cage” underground and took part in the Next Generation Mine Tour.
This experience highlighted modern, high-tech, and future mining innovations, battery-powered equipment, virtual reality, and the new underground theatre! The machines were massive! (The last time DG Drew was here was for the changeover from PDG Stephen to IPDG Sandi in June 2025.)

Later this same day, the fun carried on with a tour of the artisan chocolatier kitchen at Manitoulin Chocolate Works in Kagawong, Ontario.
What a special treat to see firsthand how fellow Rotarian Keith and Louise turn Belgian chocolate into handmade, decadent deliciousness! Did you know chocolates have feet?

So many great adventures while driving all around this awesome district!

September is Basic Education and Literacy Month

More than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate. That’s 17 percent of the world’s adult population.

Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy. We support education for all children and literacy for children and adults. Read more > https://www.rotary.org/en/our-work/supporting-education

In a Colorado retirement community with more than 50 activity clubs, residents noticed one thing was missing: Rotary 💛

So they changed that 👇

The Heritage Todd Creek satellite club is already making its mark, from planting flowers at a local senior center to planning emergency preparedness programs and exploring new community projects.

Yesterday DG Drew had the pleasure of inducting FIVE new members during his visit to the Rotary Club of Nipissing!
Meeting new Rotarians at the start of their journey is probably his favourite part of the tour!
This was the 30th official club visit and for all those who have heard his presentation, you know how exciting it is to see our District grow, one member at a time!
This club also has several members join their lunch meeting online — an impressive commitment from both the club and members to make this possible.
It was a busy meeting as they also received the 2025-26 CLUB EXCELLENCE AWARD. Lots to celebrate at the Nipissing Club 👏👏
