๐Ÿ’› Courage in action
Yesterday we were so lucky to welcome the incredible nurses from the Marie Keating Foundation for a cancer awareness talk as part of Refugee Week. ๐ŸŒธ
What a room it was โ€” women from Ukraine, South America, Spain, the US and beyond, all coming together to talk openly about something that touches every family. ๐ŸŒ
One thing became really clear: so many of us, wherever we come from, don't always put our own health first. And when you add barriers like language, cultural differences, or simply not knowing where to find information about screening in the first place, it can feel even harder.
So we made each other a promise ๐Ÿค โ€” to pass on what we learned to the women we know and love. Our nieces, our sisters, our mothers, our cousins.
Knowledge is power, and early detection saves lives. ๐Ÿ’ช

The Colossi of Memnon are two monumental statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III that have stood in the Theban necropolis near Luxor for about 3,400 years. Each statue stands at approximately 60 feet (18 meters) tall, making them some of the largest sculptures in ancient Egypt.๐Ÿ˜ฎโ™ฅ๏ธ

One needle. One thumb. A length of wool worked loop over loop โ€” no hook, no knitting needles, just the oldest way of making cloth by hand.
Last night some of us spent the evening at the Medieval Mile Museum in Kilkenny learning Nรฅlbinding and cordage, part of the city's Six After 6 summer series. Nรฅlbinding predates both knitting and crochet by centuries โ€” long before either existed, people across the world were using this single-needle technique to make socks, mittens and nets.
There's something grounding about sitting inside a medieval church at dusk, working a craft thousands of years old. It's a reminder of what we already know around the table at the Shed: women have been looping, twisting and binding thread by hand in every corner of the world, each culture carrying its own name for the same patient work.
We came home with sore(ish) fingers, a small length of nรฅlbinding, and plenty to bring back with us to share.

Threads of culture. Stitches of friendship.
