World Autism Acceptance Day – April 2nd

Today is about more than awareness — it is about acceptance, understanding, and inclusion.

Autism is a natural variation of how people think, communicate, and experience the world. Every autistic individual is unique, with their own strengths, challenges, and ways of interacting with others.

Autism acceptance means:
• Listening to autistic voices
• Respecting differences
• Creating inclusive environments
• Supporting individuals to be themselves

At Infinity Friends CLG, we are proud to support over 100 autistic children and young people across 11 weekly club sessions in Athlone and the wider Midlands. Our goal is simple — to provide a safe, welcoming space where every member feels valued, included, and understood.

We also support families, recognising the importance of community, connection, and shared understanding.

Today, and every day, we encourage everyone to move beyond awareness and towards true acceptance — because inclusion benefits us all.

✨ Exciting News at Infinity Friends CLG! ✨

We are absolutely delighted to share that our incredible Funding Officer, Carmel, has successfully secured funding to introduce a brand new service within Infinity Friends CLG 💙

Very soon, our members will have access to our very own Sensory Library 🎉

We know only too well how expensive sensory and OT equipment can be — and how frustrating it is to invest in something that your child may have little or no interest in. That’s why this new service is so important.

👉 Our Sensory Library will allow families to trial equipment for free, giving you the opportunity to see what truly works for your child before making any decisions.

This is a huge step forward in supporting our families in a practical, meaningful way — and we couldn’t be more excited to roll it out!

We would like to sincerely thank the National Lottery and the Department of Education and Youth for their support in making this possible. Your funding will have a real and lasting impact on the children and families in our community.

And of course, a very special thank you to Carmel for her hard work and dedication in bringing this to life 👏

More details coming soon… watch this space!

✨ Our New Kitchen Space ✨

After all the planning, thinking, and wishing… it’s finally here 😊

Thanks to the incredible support from our Christmas Raffle, we were able to bring this vision to life — and a huge thank you to Ian Flowers for his amazing craftsmanship in creating such a beautiful space 👏

There are still a few little finishing touches to go, but we think you’ll agree… it already looks absolutely incredible!

We are so excited to start using this space with our members — cooking, baking, learning, and having fun together 🍰👩‍🍳

Developing life skills is such an important part of building confidence and supporting future independence, and this kitchen will play a huge role in that journey.

Thank you to everyone who supported our raffle and made this possible — this is your impact 💛

🌸 International Women’s Day – Celebrating the Women of Infinity Friends 🌸

Today we celebrate the incredible women who make Infinity Friends what it is.

From the amazing mums who advocate every day for their autistic children, to the volunteers who give their time and energy, to the women in our community who support, organise, plan and care — your strength, kindness and determination inspire us all.

Infinity Friends was built on friendship, understanding and community, and so much of that comes from the powerful women who stand beside each other every day.

Whether you are a mother, sister, volunteer, supporter, or friend — today we celebrate you and the difference you make in the lives of our children and families.

Thank you for the compassion, resilience and love you bring to our community.

Happy International Women’s Day from all of us at Infinity Friends CLG.

We are absolutely outraged and deeply saddened to hear of a local children’s play centre asking an autistic child to leave because the child wanted to play in an area with a height restriction.

For many autistic children, certain spaces feel safe and regulating. Removing a child instead of working with the family to find a reasonable solution is not inclusion.

We are also aware of previous incidents where families of autistic children were reportedly asked to leave over bringing safe foods or drinks — items that are often medically or sensory necessary.

Under the Equal Status Acts 2000–2018, service providers in Ireland are legally required to provide reasonable accommodation to people with disabilities. Failing to make reasonable adjustments, where possible, is discrimination under Irish law.

Disabled children have rights.
Reasonable accommodations are not optional — they are a legal obligation.

We will not be naming the business at this time as legal action is being taken.

This is bigger than one incident.

It highlights the urgent need for improved autism awareness, disability training, and understanding within public and commercial spaces.

Autistic children deserve to feel safe.
Families deserve to feel welcome.
And no child should be excluded for the very things that make them who they are.

Infinity Friends will always stand with our families.

Inclusion is not a favour. It is a right.

💪🚴‍♀️ Go Carmel! 🚴‍♀️💪

We are incredibly proud of our own Carmel, who is taking part in the John McGowan 12 Hour Challenge with Athlone Triathlon Club 👏

Carmel is mum to Senan, and a treasured committee member, and we are so grateful that she is taking on this huge challenge to support not just Infinity Friends, but our children and families directly 💛

Infinity Friends is honoured to be one of the three organisations benefiting from this amazing community fundraiser. All proceeds raised for Infinity Friends will go towards installing a cycle track in our clubhouse garden – creating a safe, inclusive and fun space for our children to learn, play and grow 🚲✨

Carmel, thank you for your commitment, your generosity, and your willingness to go the extra mile (many times over!) for our club. We’ll be cheering you on every step and pedal of the way!

💛 Best of luck Carmel – you’ve got this! 💛
