✨ Come Sparkle With Us! ✨

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, so they say. Well in the spirit of waste not, want not, Mary gave a new home to a gadget no longer needed and has repurposed it a little. In the process, she cleaned her windows with said gadget and used a solution of equal parts vinegar to warm water. You can add a dash of washing up liquid if you like a few suds … but oh my are her windows sparkling! We’d have taken a picture but the glare would blind you 😁.

So tell us, have you tried a mixture like this on your windows? If not, we hope you’ll give it a go.

🧵 Bring back the sewing skills! 🧵

Learning to sew is a brilliant little life skill. Being able to make your own minor alterations, mend a hem or replace a button can help your clothes fit better, look better and last much longer — saving money and reducing waste along the way.

Many of us were taught the basics at school, so why not dust off those long-forgotten skills? And if you’re rusty (or starting from scratch), YouTube is packed with fantastic tutorials to guide you through almost anything.

So, like Mary, pull out that old sewing box, thread a needle and get cracking! 🪡👗♻️

👃Do you do the “whiff and sniff” test? 👃

New research suggests we are over washing our clothes. Any family with teenagers will probably agree their youngsters find it easier to put a shirt in the laundry than hang it up - but it all adds to the wear and tear on our clothing and affects its longevity. Spot cleaning is very effective to protect your clothes, as is wearing an apron as Mary muses in this clip.

So, are you an apron wearer?

🛍️ When is a bargain not a bargain? 🛍️

Do I need it or do I just want it? That’s a good question to ask ourselves as we near the end of the summer and the shops will soon be full of sales as they try to sell off summer stock.

Textile waste is a huge problem and let’s face it - the most sustainable item of clothing is the one you already have in your wardrobe.

🤔Before buying something new, ask yourself:
Do I need it?
Will I wear it a lot?
Do I already have one of these buried in the back of my wardrobe?

Small choices we make can help reduce textile waste and lessen the impact of fast fashion.

📦 Let Children’s Imagination Run Wild 📦

Hands up whoever bought a new toy for a child only to have them get more enjoyment from the box… yup, it happens a lot. Studies show it’s good to let children be a little bored from time to time because it does their imaginations good. Before you reach for the shiny new and often plastic toy, why not try giving them an assortment of tubs, tubes and cardboard boxes. You might be pleasantly surprised with their creativity!

🧺 Washing Day 🧺

We all have days like this. Days when the laundry is piled up and what do we find but an empty box of detergent. Fear not - in this clip Mary reminds us about our very first video in our Clean Like your Granny did series and steps us through how we make our own. The ingredients are widely available both in stores and online and it doesn’t harm the fishes and is lighter on your pocket. We costed this out and at a conservative estimate it is cheaper per load than off the shelf products - so win, win!
