🌼 SuperValu National Tidy Towns 2026 – Judging Period Underway! 🌼

We’re delighted to let our community know that the judging period for the SuperValu National Tidy Towns Competition 2026 is now officially underway.

This is an important time for our village, and we’re asking everyone to play their part in helping us look our very best.

👉 If you see any litter on our streets, please take a moment to pick it up.
👉 Thinking about adding a window box or giving your garden a tidy? Now is the perfect time!
👉 Please let either us or the Community Employment Scheme Supervisor know if you notice anything that needs attention.

Every small effort makes a big difference.

Judging covers a wide range of areas including:
• Community planning & involvement
• Streetscape & public spaces
• Green spaces & landscaping
• Nature & biodiversity
• Sustainability
• Tidiness & litter control (the highest marks category!)
• Residential areas
• Approach roads & streets

The adjudicator will visit every estate and every street in the village. Key things to look out for include redundant cable ties on poles, out of date notices still up, dirt on road signs etc. We’ve been out and about tackling our very long to do list very regularly but we still have work to do. Let’s work together to showcase the pride we have in our village and make it a place we can all be proud of.

Thank you for your continued support and if you can spare an hour a week to help us, please let us know - we’d love new joiners!

**** Useful Hack Alert ****

Mary is pondering once more on the “reuse” part of reduce, reuse, recycle. We all have them in our homes - those plastic ziplock bags we pick up at airports to pop our liquids in when navigating security or buy a bag of to freeze items. With luck, many of them can be reused again and again. The problem is storing them and being able to put your hands on them when you need one! In this clip, Mary shares a hack she saw online that was useful and she’s been storing them this way ever since. You could even have multiple versions for different size bags. The main thing is, especially for plastic items, try to find a way to use them more than once.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Mary’s been pondering over the saying we hear a lot - reduce, reuse, recycle. What does it really mean and how can we put it into action? Maybe we start with a good root in our cupboards - yes, including that top shelf and in those hard to reach places - and you never know what you might find in there that can be repurposed around your home, saving you buying something new. Have a good root today and see what you can reuse. Maybe more “do like your Granny did” than “clean like your Granny did” but sage advice nonetheless!

Clean Like Your Granny Did - Stove Glass Cleaning

Despite the warm weather today, Mary’s thoughts have turned to her stove and in this clip, she walks us through how she keeps it gleaming.

Did you know you can clean your stove glass without harsh chemicals? Using water and a little bit of ash works wonders - with no nasty after effects. Try it out and do let us know how you get on!
