An evening packrafting trip on the Barrow!
There’s something powerful about learning outside four walls.
Recently, as part of our New Trails 1:1 programme, we spent time packrafting down the River Barrow — slowing down, navigating challenges, building trust, and creating space for reflection along the way.
Adventure therapy isn’t just about the activity itself. Research consistently shows that outdoor and experiential therapeutic approaches can help young people improve emotional regulation, confidence, resilience, social connection, and overall wellbeing. Nature and activity-based interventions have also been linked to reduced anxiety and stress, while supporting positive identity development and engagement.
For many young people, experiences like these offer something traditional settings sometimes can’t — movement, challenge, calm, connection, and the chance to experience success in a real and meaningful way.
We’re grateful to witness the growth that happens when young people are given the opportunity to explore new environments, take healthy risks, and discover their own strengths.
