Weather advisory and Callouts

As the current heatwave continues, KMRT would like to remind all walkers to prepare adequately for a day in the hills. We recommend bringing extra water compared to usual (at least 4-5L), a peaked or wide-brimmed hat where suitable and sunscreen. Streams are quite dry and refilling bottles on the hill is not an option in most places at the moment.
It is best to set out early and be down again before the heat builds in the middle of the day.
We would also advise walkers to consider changing plans to less strenuous routes or rescheduling to another time when temperatures are more suitable.

CALLOUTS:
31st May: The team were tasked to the Beenkeeragh ridge to assist a walker who needed help navigating in cloud and high winds. They were walked to an awaiting vehicle.

19th June: The team were tasked to assist a walker who sustained head injuries after a fall near the summit of Corrán Tuathail. The casualty was treated at the scene and walked to an awaiting vehicle before being transferred to an ambulance. The team are grateful for the assistance from Coastguard helicopter Rescue 115.

4th July: The team were tasked to assist a rock climber who had fallen in the Gap of Dunloe and sustained lower leg injuries. The casualty was treated at the scene and transported to hospital by helicopter. Again, many thanks to Rescue 115 for their assistance.

July 12th: The team were tasked to the Devil's ladder area of Corrán Tuathail to assist a walker who was in difficulty due to exhaustion and dehydration. The team assisted the walker to an awaiting vehicle.
