Some in our locality are listed on https://www.killarneycru.ie/aed-locations

AEDs are located throughout our communities, often in town & village streets, schools and community buildings or in the iconic heart of Ireland phoneboxes.

Your best AED is your nearest AED..

Find it and know how to access it in an emergency, and if you would like to learn more about AED's why not visit one of our restart a heart locations on October 16th or 17th.

encourages people to Check-Call-Compress-Shock in the event of a cardiac arrest to save a life:

• Check: is the person responding or breathing normally?
• Call: emergency services on 112 or 999 and listen carefully to the instructions the ambulance call taker provides
• Compress: start pressing on the centre of the patient’s chest at a speed of 100-120 compressions per minute and at a depth of two inches or 5cms
• Shock: If someone is with you send them to get the nearest AED and get it on to the chest as quickly as possible.

With 22 schools now entered into the Restart A Heart primary schools art competition the pressure is on..

This years theme relates to how "we together can save a life."

We hope all students taking part learn the fundamental steps to take in a medical emergency and with prizes for each participating school as well a fantastic overall prize, 2026 looks to be one of the most competitive years yet with quality submissions already appearing..
Our focus is on encouraging lifesaving skills to be developed from a young age.

Any remaining schools yet unconfirmed are asked to contact us immediately.

The competition is open to students/schools in all areas KCRU operate.

We will be announcing the overall winning entry next week as part of wider restart a heart events.

Our Restart A Heart events for 2026 were launched yesterday morning at Gaelscoil Faithleann,Killarney alongside NAS Community Engagement.

For 2026 this includes our RAH Schools Art competitions with over 20 primary & post primary schools participating & prizes up for grabs supported by our fantastic local & national sponsors.

We also have 4 public awareness locations in conjunction with other CFR schemes & emergency Organisations in Killarney, Tralee, Rathmore & Kenmare.

And in addition will be providing information through local media & our social media accounts on the simple steps to take in an emergency.

Every year, globally, countless lives are lost due to cardiac arrest, but this doesn't have to be the case. With the power of bystander CPR, you can help make a difference! By acting quickly in those critical moments before emergency services arrive, you have the potential to save up to 200,000 lives every year.

We can make an impact locally with your help.

Our team has come out of a very busy September as we returned to our full internal training schedule and resumed community outreach & training.

All whilst attending to a range of emergency incidents.

This October continues busy as we organise 3 large restart a heart events, stay tuned for more over the coming week and find out how you can learn lifesaving skills through KCRU & our partner agencies.
