THE VIKING CONNECTION
Before It Was Ireland's Most Beautiful Village, Vikings Walked These Streets ⚔️
Danish warriors vs. Ossorians. Right here, where we walk today- where children play, where we grab our coffee, where tourists snap photos- blood was shed and history was made.
This isn't just "a nice village "It's a battleground that shaped Irish history.
The Annals of the Four Masters-one of Ireland's most important historical records-mentions Inistioge only once. But what a mention:
📜"A victory was gained by the Ossorians, at Inisteoc over Amlaibh, the son of Sitric."
Inistioge was where Vikings fell. Where Irish warriors defended their land. Where the River Nore ran red with the cost of freedom.
This ground beneath our feet is irreplaceable.
Every stone. Every street. Every view carries the weight of over 1,000 years of human story.
When we talk about protecting Inistioge, we're not just protecting pretty views.
We're protecting battlefields. Sacred ground. Living history.
The question isn't whether this place is special.
The question is: Will we be the generation that forgets what our ancestors fought to defend?

Without nature we cannot exist. Destroying habitat in the name of “green energy” is not the right choice for our planet - these developments are important, but belong on rooftops and brownfield sites!

Please support our community in their fight against this short-sighted decision:

🌍✨ Check out this wonderful video of Woodstock Gardens that highlights the historic and serene beauty of our beloved area! It truly is a Jewel of Kilkenny.

🚨 BUT THE SERENITY AND PEACEFUL VIEWS HERE ARE ABOUT TO CHANGE DRASTICALLY! The “quiet beautiful places of biodiversity” WILL BE GONE

As we discuss the future of Inistioge, let’s remember the importance of preserving this unique environment. We urge Kilkenny County Councill and relevant development planners to consider the impact of the proposed industrial Mega windfarm on this cherished landscape.
