Ireland loves to litter

Ireland loves to litter Although Ireland is a beautiful island, unfortunately there is another side and littering has become a huge problem.

We hope to spread awareness and show how Ireland is being destroyed. We alone can not clean up and need every County Council to act.

SDCC is encouraging you to take part in the inaugural 'Great Big All-Ireland Hedgehog Count' starting today by recording all hedgehog sightings in South Dublin County on the National Biodiversity Data Centre website

Hedgehog numbers are in decline across Europe and your participation in the hedgehog count will assist in understanding the hedgehog numbers in Ireland. Hedgehog Conservation Ireland is encouraging people all across the country to make an extra big effort to look for hedgehogs in their garden, local park, green areas or woods. Hedgehogs become active at dusk and please admire them from a distance as it is very important that we do not disturb the hedgehogs or their nests during the count. Further information is available at Irish Hedgehog Survey here: https://biodiversityireland.ie/surveys/irish-hedgehog-survey/

Beautiful evening here in Athenry. Thursday cleanup took place on Clarke Street and the bottom of Cross Street tonight 14th May. Tidy towns carry out cleanups every Thursday from 7 to 8pm, litter picking on Saturday from 8am and lots of other activities 7 days a week.

The move is aimed at deterring littering and illegal dumping, and the minister will encourage local authorities to improve enforcement.

Dumping is one thing, which as we all know is a blight on our society. However, as far as Nitrous Oxide is concerned, the current law needs to change as it does nothing about personal possession or use.

Another year gone and no clean up from Galway County Council along our country roads. This is just outside Athenry. Only managed to take pictures as no traffic behind me but it's now harder to find an area that has no litter.
