Dundalk Dog Rescue

Dundalk Dog Rescue is an entirely voluntary, non-profit making service provided by a group of ordina Dogs end up at the pound for a number of reasons.

To save the lives of dogs on the ” put to sleep” lists in pounds, to help rehabilitate and rehome them, and to promote responsible dog ownership. A stray dog in the pound has 5 days to be reclaimed or re-homed (Control of Dogs Act, 1986). A dog surrendered by it’s owners may be euthanised immediately. Louth County Council does it’s best to rehome dogs but unfortunately due to the sheer volume of d

ogs entering the pound many dogs are listed for euthanasia to accommodate new arrivals. These are dogs that DDR rescue and take into our care. The official Dept. of the Environmental Dog Control Figures shows that Louth now has one of the lowest destruction rate in Ireland. This figure was over 75% prior to DDR being founded. We rely heavily on people to help us by fostering our dogs until the next stage of their journey begins. If we cannot find a fosterer the dog will stay at our new Centre in Dromiskin. The rescue runs up huge costs each month, with most of our funds being used for food, transport and vet bills. Monetary Donations are also supplemented by a DAFM Animal Welfare Grant Award. The most recent grant was received at the end of 2025.

Older dogs are sometimes overlooked simply because of their age, but there is so much more to them than the number of years they've lived.

They enjoy walks, adventures, playtime, treats, cuddles and all the little things that make life special. ❤️

They may need a little more rest, a little more patience, or some extra care, but in return, you could give a senior dog something incredibly precious: a safe, loving home to enjoy their best years.

🌟 Kirby Gets Adopted! 🌟

Our final adoption update of Summer 2026 belongs to none other than our little Kirby.

Kirby arrived into our care in late May 2026 and quickly became a huge favourite with everyone at the Centre. She adored every cuddle, every bit of play time, and charmed absolutely everyone she met.

She received plenty of expressions of interest — but one particular family ticked all the boxes. After a lovely meet and greet, Kirby was officially reserved.

In mid‑July, Kirby packed her little bags and headed off on trial homing… and she hasn’t looked back since. She has settled beautifully into her new home and family, growing in confidence every single day.

✨ Live your dream life, Kirby — you deserve every bit of happiness. ✨

🌟 Evie Gets Adopted! 🌟

We are absolutely over the moon to share the wonderful news that our little poppet, Evie, has been formally adopted.

The transformation in Evie since she first arrived into our care has been remarkable. Over the past few months she has overcome so much — learning to trust again, being neutered, having her cherry eye operated on, and receiving all her up‑to‑date vaccinations.

Today, Evie is deeply loved and is a cherished member of her new family. She has gained a wonderful big sister in Bella, and the bond they’ve formed is truly special. Her family absolutely adore her, and she will want for nothing for the rest of her life.

A huge thank you to the entire DDR team and our incredible foster carers who helped prepare Evie for this new chapter.

And to Evie’s family — thank you for choosing to adopt a DDR dog, and for your patience and kindness throughout the adoption process.

🌟 Odie Gets Adopted! 🌟

What a turnaround the Summer of 2026 has been for this little dude. Odie arrived into our care a shy boy who hadn’t had the best start in life and was suffering with cherry eye.

He was neutered, had his cherry eye operated on, and then headed into foster for some much‑needed recuperation. And wow, did he thrive. He adored the resident dogs, soaked up every bit of TLC from his foster family, and their feedback helped us carefully shortlist the applications of interest.

On a gorgeous sunny afternoon in July, Odie met his prospective family — and they fell for him almost instantly. A few days later he went on trial, and last week we welcomed him back with his new family to complete his adoption.

He’s slowly but surely growing in confidence, looking absolutely amazing… especially after his recent grooming session, which he loved!

With paperwork signed, Odie trotted off to begin his new life with his forever family. Live your best life, wee man. 💛

A huge thank‑you to his wonderful family for choosing to adopt a DDR dog, and for being so patient throughout our process.

🐾 SENIOR DOG SPOTLIGHT ❤️

Beau is in the Senior Spotlight this Sunday!

We honestly don't know why this kind, gentle and fun loving boy is still with us?

So... why adopt a senior dog?

When people think about adopting, it’s often the puppies and younger dogs that catch their eye.

But there is something incredibly special about giving a senior dog a second chance. 🥹

Senior dogs have so much love left to give. They already have their personalities, they can often enjoy a calmer routine, and they’re more than capable of learning, playing and making wonderful memories with their new family. 🏡❤️

For a senior dog, a comfy bed, a gentle walk, a tasty treat and someone to call their own can mean absolutely everything.

Sadly, older dogs can sometimes be overlooked simply because of their age. 💔 But they deserve to be loved just as much as every younger dog and puppy.

So please don't overlook a greying muzzle. 🐶

🌼 Day 1 – Nala & Her Family 🌼

Nala is already proving herself to be an incredible mom, nursing her tiny babies with such gentleness and care.

Her foster mam, Michelle, has shared that Nala’s appetite has fully returned — she’s clearing her bowls at every feed, which is wonderful to see as she regains her strength.
