Dundalk Dog Rescue Dundalk Dog Rescue is an entirely voluntary, non-profit making service provided by a group of ordina Dogs end up at the pound for a number of reasons.

To save the lives of dogs on the ” put to sleep” lists in pounds, to help rehabilitate and rehome them, and to promote responsible dog ownership. A stray dog in the pound has 5 days to be reclaimed or re-homed (Control of Dogs Act, 1986). A dog surrendered by it’s owners may be euthanised immediately. Louth County Council does it’s best to rehome dogs but unfortunately due to the sheer volume of dogs entering the pound many dogs are listed for euthanasia to accommodate new arrivals. These are dogs that DDR rescue and take into our care. The official Dept. of the Environmental Dog Control Figures shows that Louth now has one of the lowest destruction rate in Ireland. This figure was over 75% prior to DDR being founded. We rely heavily on people to help us by fostering our dogs until the next stage of their journey begins. If we cannot find a fosterer the dog will stay at our new Centre in Dromiskin. The rescue runs up huge costs each month, with most of our funds being used for food, transport and vet bills. Monetary Donations are also supplemented by a DAFM Animal Welfare Grant Award. The most recent grant was received at the end of 2025.

Life’s a beach for Benny…

This past Summer was an emotional one for Benny’s family. When he became seriously ill, they faced an agonising few weeks — but Benny found an unbelievable strength within himself to fight back.

The fight isn’t over, but he hasn’t let it stop him from living life to the full, one day at a time.

Today we received the most heartwarming update: Benny is still doing well, just at a gentler pace… and he’s spending his time exactly where he loves to be — at the beach.

Dogs live in the moment, and Benny continues to show us how beautifully true that is.

Endless beach days for you, Benny. Big hugs from your DDR family ###

🌼 Greetings from Evie 🌼

What we love more than anything is receiving updates on our dogs who have found their forever homes. Today’s update from Evie is a little bittersweet.

Resident pupster Bella, who lovingly took Evie under her paw, sadly lost her brave battle with cancer and crossed the rainbow bridge peacefully, surrounded by her devoted family.

Evie has been adjusting to life as the only dog — which simply means even more cuddles, snuggles, and one‑to‑one love. Her joy for life continues to bring comfort and happiness to her family during what has been an incredibly difficult time.

And then Evie met Penny, nanny’s pupster… and the two girls have become wonderful friends, enjoying each other’s company and plenty of playtime.

🌟 Friday’s Visit to the Louth County Pound 🌟

This morning, our volunteers made the short trip next door to the Pound and were able to provide a lifeline to two dogs.

Tux and Chai were both strays who had remained unclaimed. Today, thanks to your support, we were able to welcome them into the care of DDR. Their futures are now guaranteed, and they will never again face uncertainty alone.

Both little guys are settling in and beginning their decompression period. Over the next few days, our team will get to know them properly and help them adjust to the routine of the Centre.

Your donations and kindness make moments like this possible. You help us step in, you help us say yes, and you help us change the story for dogs like Tux and Chai.

The DDR Certificate of Appreciation was presented last week to the fabulous team at Sean Mc Manus Tyres Drogheda , in recognition of their fantastic support for Dundalk Dog Rescue over almost 10 years! ❤️🐾
Led by Julie, the team have supported DDR in so many different ways over the years. They previously sponsored our rescue van for three years, covering the cost of insurance, motor tax and MOT tests. They also continue to look after us whenever our vans need new tyres — something we are incredibly grateful for!
They have a DDR collection box on their premises for donations and have organised many hugely successful Christmas fundraisers. They are regular supporters of our vital fundraising events, generously donating vouchers and spot prizes to help us along the way.
The team have been loyal sponsors of the DDR Calendar for many years, and more recently, they visited our Rescue Centre for a corporate volunteering day, giving their time to help us and our dogs.
We are also delighted to have Karolina as part of the DDR family. Not only is she a regular volunteer, but she is also a valued member of our very active Social Media team! ❤️

🐾 Exciting Update on Our Boy Max

Earlier this week, our boy Max was very much the centre of attention. A lovely lady had been keeping an eye on him and made the journey to come and meet him in person.

Max did what Max does best — he worked his charm — and a formal expression of interest has now been made.

Subject to a successful home check, Max could very well be heading off on trial homing.

We’re all rooting for him.

🌟 Nala & Her Puppies – 7 Week Update! 🌟

As this gorgeous little family approaches their 7‑week milestone, we’re thrilled to share that we’ve officially completed the selection process for the puppies.

A heartfelt thank you to the many, many wonderful people who expressed interest in Nala and her babies. Subject to successful home checks, all six of these little munchkins will be heading off to their new families in the coming weeks. It’s an exciting time for them — and for us.

We’re also continuing to follow up on enquiries for Nala’s forever home, making sure this incredible mama gets the loving future she deserves.

Next Friday marks a big day: the pups turn 8 weeks old, and they’re booked in for their first vaccinations, microchips, and full vet check‑ups. Another important step in their journey.

More updates to come as this sweet crew gets ready for their next chapter.

All is well in Beau’s world. A trip to his beloved fields, a good dinner with a touch of hot‑counter sausage, and now he’s fast asleep — relaxed, content, and exactly where he wants to be.

Street walking is still a work in progress, but we’re getting there. 😇

🎈 Celebrating Millie! 🎈

It was party time last weekend for our gorgeous girl — even if she was a little worn out after her training session earlier in the day.

But there’s always energy for party hats, toys, treats and cake. Millie soaked up every minute of it.

She truly is the best girl, adored by her family and living the happiest life.

💛 Here’s to Millie — loved, cherished, and celebrated.
