Today our Club received the wonderful news that we have achieved the Smedley Award. This is another achievement to celebrate in the this month when we also celebrate our 20th birthday! Our committee have worked hard together towards achieving the Smedley award.

Our Club is a high achieving club. This past week Nuala O'Connor has come in second place in the District 71 Toastmasters International UK & Ireland Speech contest! Mairead Murphy got to District level back in 2012 with the Tabletopics and again during the Covid years with the Evaluation contests. A Toastmaster does not have to enter contests but it can be a fun challenge!

Reports from our members attending Toastmasters International conference and speech contest today in Tralee are in.... delighted to announce that our Nuala O'Connor came 2nd in an International Speech contest of a very high standard!! Absolutely thrilled and so proud. Nuala delivered her speech "I am not stupid" in a contest of very high standard. At Phoenix-Tara Toastmasters we do love our bling! Deirdre got a plaque with her name engraved for winning a recent contest and Mairead got a shiny new badge! Everyone else got applause and biscuits! Even our brand new visitor got up and spoke. We have two meetings in May , the second and fourth Mondays. Before then we send our very best wishes to Nuala O'Connor as she represents our Club at the District level contests in 2 weeks time at the Rose Conf in Tralee!

April is a month of growth. Grow as a better speaker, a more confident speaker, become somebody who knows how to run a meeting . Come along to our meeting this evening, Monday 27th April. It's an 8pm start, in the upstairs meeting room at Mulvany's Fingal House ,Dunboyne.

Fantastic news in....our Nuala O'Connor has won the Division International Speech contest! Nual will now go forward to the District level (Ireland and most of UK) at the finals in Tralee next month! So proud of Nuala!

There is no meeting of Phoenix-Tara Toastmasters tonight due to the Bank Holiday (and because we found another Easter egg to enjoy!!). Looking so forward to greeting members and visitors ...Monday 13th April, 8pm start ,upstairs meeting room at Mulvany's Fingal House in the heart of Dunboyne.

Last Tuesday night was the final of the FÁS Student public speaking contest. Phoenix-Tara Toastmasters was approached and asked to organise a panel of judges for this contest. This was our 3rd year being involved. We had to sift through 108 passionate speakers to get 16 finalists! Our panel was made up of helpful enthusiastic Toastmasters from other clubs as well as our own club.

A few more photos from our Area Final this week. Our represented the club in the Tabletopics contest. He had the audience in stitches with his post contest interview...a naturally funny guy! Our Tabletopics master on the night was our John Doherty . John always does great topics, fun and accessible and they make for a lively session!
