To further these aims, the Society holds lectures and outings during the year and publishes an annual Journal which is distributed to members.

Founded in Dundalk in 1903, the Society's main objects are to preserve, examine and illustrate all ancient monuments, memorials and documents of County Louth and adjoining districts, to study the arts, manners and customs of the past to which these monuments belong, to find out all that is ascertainable about the archaeology and history of the area and to assist the museums in the County, and the County Archive, to discharge their functions. Membership is open to all. The annual subscription is €20.00, payable for each calendar year. For payment methods available, see 'Membership' tab on our website. 📢Applications Open: Community Monuments Fund 2027

Owners and custodians of archaeological monuments in Louth can now apply for funding to conserve, maintain, protect, and present our heritage.

Louth County Council administers the fund locally on behalf of the National Monuments Service.

📆 Deadline: 4:00pm, Friday 22nd January 2027

We are loving the posts from Aerial-Scan lately!
This fantastic project includes County Louth in the digitisation of Aerial photos taken in the 1960s by Cambridge Aerial Unit.

Taken in July 1964 this aerial photo captures the closed railway terminus and hotel in Greenore, Co Louth. The line was built in 1873 and was meant to link Dundalk and Newry to the port at Greenore and its ferry service to holyhead. Partition put an international border across the rail hastening its decline and competition from motor vehicles eventually led to its closure in the early 50s.

This concert comprises several musical ensembles and culminates in the premiere of a new composition, ‘Bíonn Siúlach Scéalach’, by Louth composer Daithí Kearney, celebrating the Irish EU Presidency.
