πΌ National Tidy Towns judging begins at the start of June, and like every other town in the country, we have no idea when judges may arrive. That means our volunteers are working flat out right now β giving up their free time, evenings, and weekends to complete projects, prepare flowerbeds, tidy every corner of the town, and present our community at its absolute best in the hope of retaining the π
Gold Medal we worked so hard to achieve last year.
π‘ So imagine our disgust and heartbreak on Wednesday evening when volunteers arrived at the shortcut flowerbed to w**d and water newly planted flowers, only to discover that two plants had been deliberately ripped out and thrown beside the bed. Those plants could not be saved.
π Then last night, while out watering again, another two plants had been destroyed.
βWhat is wrong with people?
π Volunteers are out in all weather, all year round, trying to make our town a place everyone can enjoy and be proud of β and this is the thanks they get. Not only does this vandalism cost money πΈ to replace the plants, it also destroys the time, effort, and goodwill of people who give their services for absolutely nothing.
π€·ββοΈ And yet, when it comes time to form committees or look for volunteers, people wonder why groups struggle to keep going.
π Please think before destroying something βfor the laugh.β Show some respect for your town and for the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep it looking beautiful for everyone.
πΊ Instead of tearing things apart, letβs work together, support one another, and keep our town looking its very best. π
