SRDC’s Kids on the Block programme was thrilled to perform at "Camp Bruce Lee Hong Kong 2026", delivering 3 fun-filled shows over two days! 🥋💛

Through lively puppet stories, our characters brought messages of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) to life. Kids were completely captivated and eagerly raised their hands during our interactive Q&A 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️! It was unforgettable seeing them embrace empathy and mutual respect with such joy ❤️

“Robust under the Gust, Flying against with Trust”
UPAM Animated Series

Two decades ago, the Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine of the LKS Faculty Medicine at the University of Hong Kong published the book Robust Under the Gust, which includes stories of the challenging journeys of children with critical illnesses and their families.

Amid rapid developments in technology, connections between people have paradoxically become more distant. Through launching the new animated series of Robust under the Gust, Flying against with Trust, we hope once again to raise public awareness of the challenges faced by critically ill children and their families, the courage and resilience required, and the importance of being positive when facing unpredictable twists in life.

“Robust under the gust,
Flying against with trust,
Like a kite that must
Defy the breaking thrust”

While the characters included in the series are fictional, they are inspired by the many patients and families whom we have been caring for and learning from over the decades of clinical encounters and personal touch.



«疾風勁草 逆風同行» 動畫系列

二十多年前，香港大學李嘉誠醫學院兒童及青少年科學系出版了《疾風勁草》一書，內容記述了病童及其家人在面對危重疾病時的心路歷程。讀者不僅能在閱讀中聆聽他們的心聲，更能從中學習如何在逆境中保持積極心態，勇敢面對生命中每一個不可預知的挑戰。

當今科技發展迅速，為生活帶來前所未有的便利與效率，然而人與人之間的連結卻日漸疏離。本學系希望藉今年推出的《疾風勁草 逆風同行》動畫系列，再次喚醒大眾對病童及其家人的關注與同理，珍視身邊的人與事。團隊透過動畫結合旁白，展現孩子面對生命考驗時的堅韌，頌讚親情的珍貴。同時，也讓更廣泛的社群認識動畫中的小主人翁，體會他們在治療重病過程中所面對的種種挑戰，以及迎難而上、不屈不撓的堅持與毅力。

動畫中的主角並非取材自特定病童的真實個案，而是源自醫護人員在日常診療中的親身觀察與感受，融合不同病人及其家人的真實經歷與體會，再透過動畫藝術化地呈現。我們希望藉此系列，傳遞在逆境中綻放微光、逆風同行、守護同心、勇毅前行的信念，共同譜寫生命動人璀璨的篇章。

我們與大口環根德公爵夫人兒童醫院（DKCH）的前院友駿明攜手合作，帶來這項別具意義的計劃。相隔60多年，駿明再回到醫院，用創意與生命力為我們帶來無限啟發和希望 ✨

這次工作坊只是個開始！Egg of Hope 計劃將於 2026 年 11 月的大口環根德公爵兒童醫院慈善義賣會設立專屬攤位與大家見面🤩

We partnered with Tsun Ming, a former patient of the Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital (DKCH), to bring this meaningful project to life. Returning to the hospital after more than 60 years, Tsun Ming inspired us all with his creativity and hope.✨

This workshop is just the beginning! "Egg of Hope" is planned to feature as a dedicated booth at the annual Hospital Fair on 21 November at Duchess of Kent Children's Hospital.

【🏡看有複雜醫療需要的孩子如何平安回家、重返校園💖】

在早前圓滿落幕的「香港弱能兒童護助會七十週年研討會」上，大口環根德公爵夫人兒童醫院（DKCH）副醫院行政總監兼兒科顧問醫生周淑娟醫生，與大家分享了一段觸動人心、對「以病人為核心」的全人護理最深刻的詮釋。

對於患有複雜醫療疾病的兒童而言，呼吸機等先進醫療科技固然能守護生命安全；然而，真正能讓他們茁壯成長、展現生命力的，始終是家庭的溫暖，以及家人的陪伴。

周醫生在會上特別分享了一位患有嚴重神經肌肉疾病的小戰士——橦橦的奇蹟旅程。由於橦橦需要 24 小時呼吸機支援，並以胃喉餵食，因此她曾在深切治療部住院長達兩年。對她的家人來說，回家似乎像是一個遙不可及的夢。

在醫療團隊與各界的共同努力下，橦橦蒞到 DKCH 後接受密集的復康訓練；同時，媽媽亦配合學習一系列實用的照顧技巧。終於，在經過約半年的準備後，她迎來夢寐以求的里程碑：平安回家，重返校園，並重新睡在自己舒適的床上。

這份珍貴成果，是醫生、專職醫療人員、非政府機構（NGO）、教育工作者以及家長們，為了同一個目標攜手協作、凝聚大愛的最好證明。真令人動容：縱然面對重重挑戰，大家仍一步步把不可能變成可能，讓這份希望得以實現。

At the recent SRDC 70th Anniversary Conference, Dr. Chau Shuk Kuen (Deputy Hospital Chief Executive & Consultant Paediatrician at DKCH) shared a powerful reminder of what truly means to put the patient at the heart of holistic care.

For children with complex medical conditions, advanced medical technologies—such as ventilator support—can help sustain their lives. Yet it's the warmth of home and family that helps them thrive.

Dr. Chau shared the inspiring story of a brave little fighter, Tung Tung. She has a severe neuromuscular disease required 24-hour ventilator support and was fed through a gastric tube, she spent two long years in the Intensive Care Unit. For her family, going home often felt like an impossible dream.

With the dedicated efforts of the medical team and support from many partners, once Tung Tung arrived at DKCH she began intensive rehabilitation training. At the same time, her mother learned a range of practical caregiving skills. After about six months of preparation, Tung Tung finally reached the milestone she had been dreaming of: returning home safely, going back to school, and sleeping again in her own comfortable bed.

This precious achievement is a powerful testament to teamwork and compassion.

Doctors, allied health professionals, NGOs, educators, and parents joined hands towards one shared goal—making the unimaginable possible. It is truly touching to see how, despite countless challenges, hope can become real.

「在這次 SRDC 研討會中，一個真理變得無比清晰：韌性並非是為了避免跌倒，而是關於跌倒後重新站起來的勇氣。作為一名脊椎外科醫生，我非常榮幸能夠幫助孩子們將最艱難的戰鬥轉化為最精彩的逆轉勝。讓我們為每一個小小的腳步、每一副拆除的支架，以及隨之而來的每一張笑臉喝采！」

高日藍醫生（麥理浩復康院副醫院行政總監、瑪麗醫院骨科顧問醫生）在研討會後分享了這些感人至深的反思，道出了兒童脊椎護理對生命的真實影響。

“During this SRDC conference, one truth became unmistakably clear: resilience isn’t about avoiding the fall — it’s about the courage to rise again. As a spine surgeon, I have the privilege of helping children turn their toughest battles into their greatest comebacks. So here’s to every small step, every brace removed, and every smile that follows! “

Dr. Paul Aarne Koljonen, Deputy Hospital Chief Executive of Maclehose Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Consultant (Orthopaedics & Traumatology) of Queen Mary Hospital shared these heartfelt reflections on the true impact of paediatric spine care.

As a developmental-behavioral paediatrician, Prof. Winnie shared her vision for using novel interventions and innovative technology to improve outcomes for children with special educational needs. 💻🌟

By integrating researchers, clinicians, and educators, we are advancing the next generation of child-centred services! 🤝💡
