Blair's competing in the British Transplant Games 2022 as part of the "Leeds Children's Transplant Team" because he had his life saving liver transplant at Leeds General Hospital 8 years ago in 2014. We are fundraising to help send 50 children from around the UK, who have had life-saving liver or kidney transplants at Leeds General Hospital to the 2022 British Transplant Games in Leeds (28-31 July
2022) so that they can all celebrate their Gift of LIFE. The games are held every summer in a different UK city, but because of covid, they haven't happened for the last 2 years, so Blair & his friends are very excited to be finally meeting back up again & are also looking forward to making new friends with the newer transplanted children. There are 200 teams competing of which there are 12 children's teams. Blair will be taking part in 4 events; cycling, ball throw, track & the wheelchair dash. Blair, Keith & I will also be taking part in the 3k Donor walk/wheelchair push, in memory of Blair's Donor, he's our Hero!! it’s a celebration of life, a fun, uplifting & emotional event. Blairs condition means he gets tired very easily & is much less abled. He's also been very poorly for 4 months of this year, spent 5 wks in hospital & had to recover from major life saving bowel surgery. Despite all this, he is always so happy, makes everyone smile & laugh, is grabbing every moment & living his life to the full!! we're very proud of him!! Any form of exercise is a challenge for him, but last year his granny bought him an assisted bike & he loves to ride it. Last week he got back in the saddle for the first time this year. Monday marks 30 days to the games, so Blair's challenge is to cycle 30 laps of our local park or his school field before the games start. The children’s transplant team rely on donations. Any sponsorship will go directly to the LEEDS transplant team, charity no 1075308 & will make this an amazing event for the team and allow them to celebrate their achievements in style!! We'd love to see any of you that would like to join us, watching us or the team take part, watching or joining us on the donor run/walk or cheering us on, on our route to the Opening Ceremony.
