Even the friendliest dogs can feel uncomfortable if someone reaches for their face, ears or tail without warning.

The best way to say hello? Let the dog approach you, pay attention to their body language and respect the space they need.

This was the belief of a trainee teacher at Battambang Teacher Education College in Cambodia after being scratched by a pet dog until the skin bled.

Later that same day, a Mission Rabies education session explained how rabies can potentially be transmitted through scratches if infectious saliva is present.

Realising the risk, the trainee teacher immediately went to hospital to receive a rabies vaccination.

The experience is a powerful reminder that understanding rabies isn't just about learning facts. It's about knowing when to take action 🐶🩵

🐾 What would you do if you were bitten by an animal?

Knowing the answer could save your life.

That's why Mission Rabies India recently visited the WOOW Plant in Chicalim, where 45 garbage collectors, supervisors and staff joined a rabies awareness and first aid session.

From recognising the warning signs of a suspected rabid dog to understanding the importance of immediate wound washing after a bite, every person reached is better equipped to protect themselves, their families and their communities.

Because when it comes to rabies, awareness is prevention 💙

🐕 A rabies-free South America is within reach, but only if we protect the front line.

Arequipa, Peru remains a critical region in the fight against canine rabies. In July 2026, Mission Rabies volunteers joined local teams for a five-day vaccination campaign in Zamacola District.

Together, we vaccinated 6,423 dogs, helping strengthen the barrier against rabies and protect both people and animals.

Every vaccination counts. Every community counts. Every step brings us closer to a future free from dog-mediated rabies.
