Scouting relies on a wide range of volunteers to make these experiences for young people possible. Volunteer roles range from working directly with young people, to being a charity trustee or in a supporting role such as helping with fundraising, administration or looking after our premises and equipment.

Last week our Group Lead Volunteer had the privilege of presenting the Award for Merit to Matthew Bolton in recognition of his outstanding and dedicated contribution to Scouting in Wheathampstead, most recently through his roles as a Charity Trustee and volunteer with our Squirrel section.

Well done and thank you Matt!

A thank you to Wickes St Albans store today for their kind donation of, amongst other things, garage door paint and tools to allow us to address the unsightly scratch graffiti on the huts external doors.

If there is anyone local and happy with a roller/paintbrush who could donate a few hours time to do the painting it would be amazing!!

Assisting us to maintain our premises is just one of many ways that you could get involved with supporting us to provide opportunities to young people locally. Every little thing really does help.

It's been a very varied few days at the Scout Hut!!

Our Squirrels (4-6yrs) had the opportunity to meet a working guide dog and experience the sensations of being guided through a course without their own sight. 🦮

Our Beavers (6-8yrs) learnt about what plants need to grow and, in between dodging the rain, successfully planted a number of Rowan and Oak tree saplings in our grounds, before taking their own saplings home. 🌳☔

Finally some of our Cubs (8-10.5yrs) had an entertaining time celebrating National Doughnut Week 🍩🍩

You can create incredible opportunities for local young people, without running activities, going on trips, or leading sessions.

Working directly with young people isn’t for everyone. Become a trustee, and make decisions that’ll give young people in our village .

District Cub Camp 2026

Last weekend saw ten cubs from our Mead Pack join up with approximately 80 other cubs from across the Harpenden, Wheathampstead & Kimpton district for a two night camp at Phasels Wood Activity Centre.

The cubs got to take part in a range of activities such as Climbing, Pedal Karts, Archery and cooking over fires.

It certainly seems they had a great time, a big thank you to all the different volunteers who made it all possible!

A huge well done to our scouts who were 1 of 150 teams competing in the "Green Beret Challenge 2025" this weekend!

A great team performance saw them finish 9th in the orienteering competition (Wheathampsteads best result in recent times) and 56th in the event overall!

Well done all and we hope you get a deserved rest tonight.

Good luck to our scout team taking part in Hertfordshire Scouts Green Beret Challenge this weekend!

Good luck to our scout team taking part in Hertfordshire Scouts Green Beret Challenge this weekend!

The challenge will test a group of Scouts through a range of physical and intellectual activities. It also proves to be a significant challenge to leadership and teamwork skills. IT'S TOUGH!! However, you can survive, provided you are prepared for the weather. The Challenge is held in November, cold...

Could you be the caterer for slightly more than just sandwiches? Do you have experience catering for larger groups or just the willingness to learn?

Our activities rely on volunteers to open up opportunities for young people from the village. We are keen to hear from people who may be able to help us feed our young people at a weekend camp in Letchworth in June. (A commercial quality kitchen in a nice building will be available).
