๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ’™ Happy World Oceans Day with a view of our Bristol Channel! ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒŠ

Today, we celebrate the incredible oceans that cover more than 70% of our planet. They provide food and livelihoods for millions of people, help regulate our climate, and support an astonishing diversity of marine life.

But our oceans are facing growing threats from pollution, habitat loss, overfishing, and climate change. Every piece of litter kept out of the sea, every sustainable choice we make, and every voice raised in support of conservation can make a real difference.

Protecting our oceans starts with awareness and action. Whether you're joining a beach clean-up, reducing single-use plastics, supporting sustainable seafood, or simply sharing this message, you are helping to build a healthier future for our marine ecosystems.

This World Oceans Day, let's remember that the ocean connects us all. Together, we can protect the fish, seabirds, seagrass meadows, coral reefs, and countless other species that depend on healthy oceans to thrive.

๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’™ The future of our oceans is in our hands.

๐ŸŒŠA Day Out in Weston ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

A day out in Weston should be simple.
Enjoy the beach. Spend time with family and friends. Leave it as you found it.

But every day, large amounts of litter are left behind along the seafront.

In the UK alone, more than two million pieces of litter are dropped every single day.
A lot of that ends up on beaches, where it doesnโ€™t just disappear.

Even when litter starts to break down, it doesnโ€™t go away. It turns into smaller pieces, including microplastics, which pollute the environment and enter the food chain.

This has real consequences.
Wildlife can mistake litter for food or become tangled in it.
Habitats are damaged. Water and sand become polluted.

And once itโ€™s on the beach, it can easily be carried out to sea.

Weston is a place people come to enjoy.
Keeping it clean relies on everyone doing their part.

๐ŸšฎSo, if youโ€™re visiting, please take your litter home with you, or use the bins provided.

A small action makes a real difference.

I'm dreading seeing what state our beaches have been left in after this weekend's heatwave. This is but a tiny reflection of what's in our sand, thousands upon thousands of pieces of plastic. I lose count of how many Fruit Shoot bottles, and net bags I pick up each time. Please North Somerset Council North Somerset Recycling and Waste do everything you can by emptying the bins more frequently during these busy times. Waste has a massive impact on our natural environment, and emotional wellbeing.
