So many people to thank for helping make our Growing @ Grove Park Community Picnic really special yesterday.

Thanks so much to all the acts who entertained us throughout the day The Overmorrow Worle Community Choir The Steepholmers North Somerset Samba and Eleazar King, and to the brilliant Paul and Jen for doing all things sound and tech on the bandstand. We couldn't do this event without them.

Thanks to The Hula hoop Lady, Tiny Circus, Osprey Outdoors Community Interest Company, Garden Organic North Somerset Master Composters, We SEE Trees Community Tree Nursery, Cleaner Coastlines for all the brilliant activities going on around the edges, and Bev, Rose and Sophie for making the craft area so great.

Thanks to for the lend of gazebos, benches and tables, Millard's Ice Cream van, Malton Drinks van, and AJ Medical for providing first aiders. Thanks also to Wmca Wmca and SuperLitter Picking for volunteer litter picking

Thanks to North Somerset Council for supporting the event, and to Quartet Community Foundation for funding to help pay for some of the costs towards the event. Thanks also to everyone who contributed to our Crowdfunder, and to a very generous donation from The Vaults which helped a great deal.

Lastly, a HUGE thanks to everyone who joined us, and all of the volunteers who helped on the day, you are truly an AMAZING team.

🚨There is currently an amber heat-health warning in place for the south west of England, and this will become a RED heat-health warning to cover the high temperatures anticipated on Wednesday and Thursday this week 🚨

A red heat-health alert is the highest level of alert and means severe impacts are expected across health and social care services due to the high temperatures, with increased risk to life across the whole population particularly those who are more vulnerable.

Older people, babies and young children, people with long term health conditions and those on certain medication may struggle to keep themselves cool and hydrated. Please check in with friends, family and neighbours to make sure they’ve got what they need 🙏

Remember to:

🔴 drink plenty of water even if you don’t feel thirsty
🔴 keep your home cool by closing windows and curtains in rooms that face the sun
🔴 try to keep out of the sun during the hottest part of the day
🔴 when out in the sun, wear a hat, light clothing and apply SPF 30+ sunscreen with UVA protection.

If you feel dizzy, weak, sick or are intensely thirsty during hot weather, this may be heat exhaustion. Move to a cool place, drink plenty of water and cool your body down. If symptoms persist seek medical attention by calling NHS 111. In an emergency call 999.

The heat-health alert system is run by the UK Health Security Agency and Met Office. They issue alerts and guidance during hot weather to help communicate any risks to health. It's a way of making sure health and social care services, and people who are more vulnerable to the heat, can be ready and stay well.
