The government says there’s no need for a government-led televised briefing to the nation on the threats from the climate and nature crisis.

They say the public is already aware - thanks to two “Climate and Nature Statements” in the House of Commons, one from Ed Miliband last year, another this July from then Nature Minister, Mary Creagh.

Whilst welcome, we don’t think two 10 minute statements to a handful of MPs are a substitute for briefing the entire nation. Do you?

What’s more, this crisis involves all department - not just DESNZ and DEFRA. It calls for a whole-of-government response, led by the Prime Minister.

It’s great to see their commitment to reusing and recycling as much as possible, with lots of great bits and pieces at their place near Owlswick, from garden tools to furniture.🌍

The UK faces growing risks from climate and nature breakdown - from extreme weather to economic disruption and national security threats. Yet the public has never been given a clear national briefing on the scale of these risks. Government should hold an emergency briefing from leading experts.

We were watering our trees and shrubs at the Wildbelt last night feeling very thankful for the donations that enables us to put two water butts up there and be able to water when we need to - like in this extended heatwave....

We have a group that are helping to water through the summer, and look after the Wildbelt throughout the year with 3- 4 working party half days - with the Chiltern Society. If you want to be part of helping nature thrive and creating and protecting richer green spaces locally please DM us.
