🪛 Another successful Wendover Repair Café! 🪛
Last Saturday, Friends of Wendover Community Library (FOWL) hosted Repair Cafe Wendover. A big thank you as always to the many talented volunteers who gave up their Saturday morning to help repair and restore lots of much-loved items.
🧵 What’s a repair café? 🧵
For those of you who haven't been to a Repair Cafe before, it's a really exciting opportunity for anyone to bring along items – clothes, electricals, jewellery and much more - that still have loads of life left in them and get them repaired for a small donation. It stops items being sent to landfill and it's a brilliant way of bringing us together as a community - sharing tea, coffee, cake and doing something positive for the environment at the same time.

An estimated 335 million repairable items are thrown away in the UK every year (1). These are items that could have been restored and reused, but have gone to landfill instead, polluting our oceans and rivers and spiking carbon emissions. We can't control what happens at waste facilities, but we can control the actions we take in our own homes and lives.
🧸 Repair highlight 🧸
A highlight from this month's cafe was a man who brought in two teddies from his own childhood, with voice boxes inside that hadn't worked for forty years. He wanted to give these to his own young children but didn't think it would be possible. With the help of FOWL’s wonderful volunteers, they were brought back to life ready to be loved by a whole new generation.

FOWL and the café’s volunteers raised over £140 this month, and they couldn't do this without the incredible volunteers in our community.

Wendover’s Repair Cafe is on every fourth Saturday of the month. The next session is on Saturday 28 November (9:30am-12pm). We hope to see you there!
