June brought us our annual garden visit, and exciting drive led us down a very bumpy track to this wonderful tranquil garden!

Caz our host spoke about her garden with quiet enthusiasm showing us the herbaceous borders, a wild flower meadow, the ancient cherry orchard where we tucked into the already ripe fruit, then on past her hens and into her kitchen garden. Huge sunflowers already with buds greeted us. We pondered how our sunflowers were doing! Ummm these specimens were weeks ahead!

The evening concluded with tea and the most delicious cakes … ginger, polenta, poppy seed and of course coffee and walnut. There were those amongst us who tried a little of each! 🤤 I’m not saying who! 😉

Our next fundraising event … Teas at the Open Garden Event on 28th June.

Thank you ladies for your company. So lovely to stroll around a garden on a sunny evening.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert was an absolute joy, full of energy from start to finish at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre.

A fabulous evening with the WI Culture Club

Hey Ladies... Feeling Competitive?
'Beguiling Bygones' by Martin Attridge...

When Martin retired 15 years ago, he decided the talks he gave would only be on the topics he enjoyed...
good choice, as he made our May meeting both interesting and fun!

Martin brought along 18th and 19th century household and business items.
We were split into small groups and the guessing began.
Some sundries seemed obvious, others items far more perplexing.
Have a look at the photos and have a go yourselves (answers will be in the comments).

We said goodbye to Lynn Foster, one of our longest serving members and former president, as she moves home for new adventures.

There was another great raffle, along with scrummy cakes that everyone loved. The Anzacs were especially popular and definitely worth making at home yourselves.

Our next meeting 9th June will be the Annual Garden Visit.
If you're thinking of joining, contact us asap to get booked onto the trip.

Our WI Gardening Group trip to the Ashmolean in Oxford was much fun to view the In Bloom exhibition to see how plants and seeds and the collecting of them have changed our world.

We left our trugs and trowels at home for this occasion and enjoyed each others company a delicious lunch and the exhibition of course!

Our Gardening Group have been busy this week tidying the Old Tower Churchyard, sprucing up the post box garden and planting primroses, snowdrops and another donated silver birch on the recreation field by the cafe.
