How much is your food waste costing you? The average household throws away up to £83 of edible food every month – that’s almost £1,000 a year!

The good news? With a few simple habits, you can cut waste and save money:

✅Plan ahead – check your cupboards and fridge, then write a shopping list before you go
✅Store food properly to keep it fresher for longer
✅Cook the right amount – get familiar with portion sizes for foods like pasta and rice
✅Freeze food near its use-by date for later
✅Get creative with leftovers and turn them into tasty new meals...

Then sit back and enjoy deciding what to do with the extra money you’ve saved! For more tips, information, and delicious leftover recipes, visit Love Food Hate Waste - Community.

Good to know.

Did you know cartons and containers with cardboard tubes (such as those for curved crisps or hot chocolate) can be recycled?

Before recycling, give the carton a quick rinse if needed, flatten it, and replace the lid. Then simply place it in your recycling bin.

Follow the link in the comments to see a full guide on what goes in each bin.

Good reminder for coffee lovers.

Coffee pods are one of the many items you can recycle at our Household Recycling Centres (HRC’s). Why not save them up for your next visit?

Here’s a quick reminder of what to do:

♻️ Keep aluminium and plastic pods separate – they’re sent to different processing facilities. There’s no need to empty out the coffee.
♻️ Tip pods in loose – place them directly into the designated Podback bins. Please don’t include any pod packaging or bags, as these can contaminate the recycling.

To check whether your pods can be recycled at our HRCs, visit the Podback website for the full list of participating brands. The link is in the comments below.
